LeoVegas Casino at a Glance

LeoVegas started life in Sweden in 2011 with one simple idea. Its founders wanted to build the best casino for mobile phones. Fifteen years later, it is one of the best-known names in online gambling, and it still calls itself the “King of Casino”.

A lot has changed since we first reviewed it in 2020. The brand now belongs to MGM Resorts International, the US casino giant behind the MGM Grand and Bellagio. The game library has more than tripled. The welcome offer also works very differently.

This review covers the international LeoVegas site, which runs under a Malta licence. Players in the UK, Sweden and Ontario use separate local sites with their own offers.

Who Owns LeoVegas?

Gustaf Hagman and Robin Ramm-Ericson founded LeoVegas in 2011. The story goes that they came up with the idea while spinning an iPhone at a barbecue. The phone reminded them of a roulette wheel, and the name LeoVegas followed.

The company listed on the Stockholm stock exchange in 2016. Then, in 2022, MGM Resorts International bought it in a deal worth around $607 million. MGM now owns LeoVegas through a company called LV Lion Holding. MGM is also a joint owner of BetMGM in North America.

There has been a change at the top too. Hagman stepped down as Group CEO in June 2025 after 14 years. Mattias Wedar, the former product and technology chief, took over. Since the MGM deal, the group has also bought the game studio Push Gaming.

Being owned by one of the world’s biggest casino companies gives LeoVegas serious financial backing. For players, that is a real plus when it comes to trust.

Licensing and Safety

The international site is run by LeoVegas Gaming plc. It holds a licence from the Malta Gaming Authority, one of Europe’s main gambling regulators. You can check the licence number, MGA/CRP/237/2013, at the bottom of every page.

The wider group also runs local sites in other regulated markets. For example, UK players use a site licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. Swedish players are covered by the Swedish Gambling Authority. In Canada, LeoVegas has been part of the regulated Ontario market since 2022.

The 2022 UK penalty

LeoVegas has one notable mark on its record. In July 2022, the UK Gambling Commission fined LeoVegas Gaming PLC £1.32 million. The regulator found anti-money laundering and customer-care failings between October 2019 and October 2020.

It is worth keeping this in context. The Commission found no evidence of criminal spending by the customers it checked. It also said LeoVegas cooperated fully and fixed the problems. Many big UK operators faced similar penalties in the same period as the regulator tightened its rules.

LeoVegas Welcome Bonus Explained

The current casino welcome offer is not a normal bonus. Instead of bonus money with strings attached, you get real cash and free spins. The catch is that you must play through your deposit first.

Here is how it works, step by step:

  1. Sign up and choose the Casino Welcome Offer.
  2. Deposit at least €20 within 7 days. You get a first batch of free spins straight away.
  3. Bet your deposit 35 times on eligible games within 14 days.
  4. Claim a cash reward equal to your deposit, up to €1,000.
  5. Collect more free spins every week for 12 weeks.

The amount you deposit decides what you get. The table below shows each level.

First deposit Instant spins Cash reward Weekly spins (x12) Total spins
€20 to €49.99 5 €20 10 125
€50 to €99.99 10 €50 15 190
€100 to €249.99 20 €100 20 260
€250 to €499.99 50 €250 50 650
€500 to €999.99 100 €500 100 1,300
€1,000+ 200 €1,000 200 2,600

All the free spins are worth €0.20 each and play on Gates of Olympus Super Scatter. The good news is that spin winnings go straight into your real money balance. There is no wagering on them. You must use each batch within 3 days, and you have 7 days to claim each weekly batch.

What to watch out for

The 35x turnover is the big condition. For example, a €100 deposit means placing €3,500 in bets within 14 days. That is a lot of play for a casual player.

Also, not every game counts equally. Most slots count 100%, while table games and video poker count only 10%. Live casino, bingo and crash games count nothing at all. A few slots, such as Blood Suckers and Dead or Alive, count 70%.

On the plus side, you can withdraw your own real money at any time without losing the offer. Only your first deposit counts towards the reward.

Live casino and sports offers

Live casino fans can pick a separate welcome offer instead. It comes as three deposit cards, each needing at least €10. Each one must be wagered 40 times on live games. The exact bonus amount shows in your “My Offers” page after sign-up.

Sports bettors get a 100% profit boost on their first two qualifying bets, worth up to €200 in extra winnings. However, the rules are strict. Each bet must be an in-play bet on mobile, with a maximum stake of €25. Deposits made with Skrill or Neteller don’t qualify.

Slots and Casino Games

When we first reviewed LeoVegas, it had around 900 games. Today it claims more than 3,000 real money slots and table games. As a result, it now ranks among the biggest game libraries you will find.

The slot lobby mixes big names with newer studios. You will find games from Pragmatic Play, NetEnt, Red Tiger, Games Global, Blueprint, Hacksaw Gaming, ELK Studios, Push Gaming and many more. Play’n GO is well represented too, with Legacy of Dead among the site’s most popular slots.

Our original review picked out Jack and the Beanstalk, Mega Fortune, Starburst and Prison Escape as player favourites. Starburst still gets a mention on the homepage today. Meanwhile, newer hits like Gates of Olympus Super Scatter and Big Bass Splash have joined the top of the charts.

LeoVegas exclusives

One thing that sets LeoVegas apart is its own branded games. These are exclusive titles you can’t play anywhere else. Examples include The Golden Lion 2, Gates of LeoVegas 1000, LeoVegas Rampage and Excalibur Kings Conquest from Push Gaming.

Jackpots

Jackpot hunters have plenty of choice. There are network progressives such as Mega Moolah, plus Blueprint’s Jackpot King and Games Global’s WowPots. On top of that, LeoVegas runs its own LeoJackpot. It adds an extra jackpot layer to selected games, with a Mega prize that has passed €48 million.

Table games

The table game section covers all the classics. You can play roulette, blackjack, baccarat, poker games, craps and punto banco. There are also less common options like casino solitaire and Andar Bahar.

Live Casino

The live casino has grown into one of the site’s biggest strengths. There are now more than 600 live tables to choose from.

Evolution still powers most of the action, just as it did in 2020. It is now joined by Playtech, Pragmatic Play, OnAir Entertainment, Authentic Gaming and Stakelogic.

Popular picks include Lightning Roulette, LeoVegas Speed Blackjack, and Dream Catcher. There are also LeoVegas-branded live tables and VIP tables for high rollers. If you are new to this style of play, our guide to live dealer casino games explains how it all works.

Sports Betting and Bingo

LeoVegas is more than a casino. The sportsbook covers football, tennis, basketball, rugby, horse racing, greyhounds, esports and virtual sports. You can also build your own bets from the same match using the Bet Builder tool.

Bingo fans have a separate lobby as well. It has its own welcome offer and themed rooms.

Awards

LeoVegas has always been proud of its trophy cabinet. Back in 2020, our review listed a string of EGR awards from 2016 to 2018, many of them for mobile gaming. The brand has kept winning since then.

Year Award
2024 Online Casino of the Year, Global Gaming Awards (EMEA)
2023 Mobile Operator of the Year, International Gaming Awards
2023 Operator of the Year, EGR Operator Awards
2023 Casino Operator of the Year, EGR Operator Awards
2022 Online Gaming Operator of the Year, International Gaming Awards

Mobile Casino and App

Mobile is where LeoVegas began, and it still shows. Every game is built to work on phones. You can play straight from your mobile browser with nothing to download.

There is also a LeoVegas app for iPhone. The casino describes it as award-winning, and you can reach it from the App Store link on the site. We couldn’t find an Android app listed on the international site.

LeoVegas built its name on mobile play, which shows how far gambling has come. For a look at the bigger picture, read our article on how gambling has changed over the centuries.

Deposits and Withdrawals

The international site lists these payment methods:

  • Visa and Mastercard
  • Trustly
  • Skrill and Neteller
  • Paysafecard
  • PayPal
  • Apple Pay

Apple Pay is handy for iPhone users. You can read more in our guide to Apple Pay casinos. The minimum deposit is €10, although the welcome offer needs €20. Methods can vary by country, so check the cashier after you sign up.

LeoVegas aims to process withdrawals within 24 hours. Under its licence rules, it must handle them within five working days at most. For the fastest payouts, the casino itself suggests e-wallets such as PayPal, Skrill and Trustly.

Terms worth knowing

If you withdraw money you never played with, LeoVegas can charge a 5% fee.

After 12 months without logging in, an account with money in it counts as inactive. LeoVegas may then charge €5 a month, but only after giving you 30 days’ notice.

You are allowed only one account. Opening extra accounts can lead to fees and lost winnings.

Customer Support

Support is one area where LeoVegas has always done well. Live chat is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. You can also email the team, which is handy for sending documents, or call them on a Swedish phone number.

In addition, there is a detailed help centre with answers to common questions. Complaints get a reply within 10 days, according to the terms.

Responsible Gambling

LeoVegas has its own safer gambling programme called LeoSafePlay. It gives you a good set of tools to stay in control:

  • Daily, weekly or monthly deposit limits
  • Wagering and loss limits
  • Session time limits that log you out
  • Time-outs and self-exclusion

Any stricter limit you set starts at once. If you want to loosen a limit, you must wait a one-day cooling-off period. Accounts closed because of gambling problems stay closed for at least five years.

Where Can You Play?

LeoVegas runs different sites for different countries. The international site doesn’t accept players from Afghanistan, Curacao, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Somalia, Syria, the USA or Yemen. It also blocks anyone in a country where online casino play breaks local law.

Players in regulated markets such as the UK, Sweden and Ontario are sent to their own local site instead. Canadian players can also compare other real money casinos in Canada.

Because availability depends on where you live, the site will tell you straight away if it isn’t open to you. Always check the rules in your own country before you play.

Pros and Cons

Pros Cons
Owned by MGM Resorts, a major listed company 35x deposit turnover on the welcome offer is high
Over 3,000 games plus 600+ live tables Live casino play doesn’t count towards the casino offer
Free spin winnings paid as cash with no wagering Sports offer only covers in-play bets on mobile
Exclusive LeoVegas games and the LeoJackpot Not available in many countries
24/7 live chat and fast withdrawal target £1.32m UK fine in 2022 for past compliance failings

Our Verdict

LeoVegas has grown up a lot since 2020. The game library is huge, the live casino is excellent and MGM’s ownership adds real stability. It also keeps adding awards, which backs up its “award-winning” reputation.

The welcome offer is the one area to think about carefully. Cash rewards and wager-free spins are a fair way to do it. Still, betting your deposit 35 times in two weeks suits regular slot players more than casual ones.

If LeoVegas is open in your country, it remains one of the safest and most polished casinos we review. Want to know how we test casinos like this one? Read why you can trust Topboss Group.
