Lightning Box Games Introduction
Lightning Box Games is a slot studio based in Sydney, Australia. It designs video slots for land-based casinos, online casinos and social casino apps. Peter Causley and David Little founded the company in 2004.
Both founders worked as game designers at Aristocrat and IGT before they started the studio. That background shows in the maths and pacing of its games. Many titles use free games, multipliers and wild symbols to build bonus rounds.
Today Lightning Box sits inside the Scientific Games group, now part of Light & Wonder. Our page on WMS and Scientific Games explains the wider group.

“There are not many companies who are successful across real money, social and land-based.” Peter Causley, co-founder of Lightning Box.
How Lightning Box Began
Lightning Box started as a supplier of exclusive games for North American land-based casinos. It worked with IGT in its early years. After the 2009 financial crisis, the studio parted ways with IGT and moved into online games.
It entered the online market with Chartwell in 2010. From about 2015, online supply became its main business. Causley has described the team as “fairly compact” but growing, with an office in Sydney’s Darling Harbour since 2018.
That shift paid off. Lightning Box signed deals with several partners over the years, including Penn Interactive for social casino in 2018. Later in 2018, it expanded its agreement with SG Digital to supply online operators in North America. A first rollout in New Jersey was planned for early 2019.
Joining Scientific Games
Scientific Games acquired Lightning Box in 2021. The group later became Light & Wonder. Lightning Box games now appear on the group’s OpenGaming platform, alongside titles from other studios in the family.
