Who Is Playtech?

Playtech was founded in 1999 and has grown from a casino software developer into one of the industry’s largest gambling technology companies.

The company was originally founded by Teddy Sagi together with specialists from the casino, multimedia and software industries.

Playtech launched its first casino product in the early 2000s and subsequently expanded into poker, bingo, sports betting, live casino and complete operator platforms.

Today, the company describes itself as a platform, content and services provider rather than simply a casino game studio. It supplies both the games players see and much of the technology operators use behind the scenes.

Playtech Is Now Primarily a B2B Business

One of the biggest changes since our original review is Playtech’s shift towards becoming a more focused B2B technology business.

In April 2025, Playtech completed the €2.3 billion sale of Snaitech. Following that transaction and changes to its Caliente Interactive relationship, the company now describes itself as predominantly a pure-play B2B operation.

This means its core focus is supplying technology, games, platforms and services to gambling operators rather than running consumer casino brands itself.

Playtech Casino Games

Casino content remains a major part of Playtech’s business. Its portfolio covers online slots, table games, video poker, jackpots and other RNG casino products.

The company has produced hundreds of games over more than two decades, so we would no longer use the old fixed figure of “600 games” that previously appeared on this page. The catalogue continues to change as new titles are launched and older releases are retired.

Playtech Slots

Playtech slots range from traditional fruit-machine-style games to feature-heavy video slots and progressive jackpot titles.

One of its best-known franchises is Age of the Gods, a long-running series of mythology-themed jackpot games.

Topboss Group has reviewed numerous individual Playtech releases, including Age of the Gods Norse: Gods and Giants and Age of the Gods Glorious Griffin.

Progressive Jackpots

Playtech has a long history of developing progressive jackpot games.

The Age of the Gods series remains one of its best-known jackpot brands, while the Kingdoms Rise series introduced another range of linked progressive slots.

Progressive jackpot values change continuously, so players should always use the amount displayed inside the live casino game rather than relying on a fixed figure quoted in a review.

Playtech Live Casino

Live casino is now one of Playtech’s most important product areas.

The company operates live dealer studios in Europe, the United States and Latin America and supplies both standard and customised games to major casino operators.

Its live portfolio includes blackjack, roulette, baccarat and other traditional table games alongside newer game-show and entertainment-style products.

Playtech also produces bespoke live casino studios and branded tables for individual operators. Recent partnerships have included dedicated live casino products for companies such as bet365 and DraftKings.

You can read more about how streamed casino tables work in our guide to live dealer casino games.

Live Quantum Roulette

Playtech has also experimented with combining traditional live casino games with slot-style features and multipliers. One example is Live Quantum Roulette, which adds enhanced payouts to the standard roulette format.

PAM+ Platform

The old version of this review referred heavily to Playtech ONE and the Mobile Hub. While those products formed an important part of Playtech’s earlier strategy, its current flagship platform is PAM+.

PAM+ is Playtech’s player account management platform. It allows operators to manage players across different gambling products through a connected account and wallet.

The platform can bring together casino, live casino, sports betting, poker and bingo while also giving operators tools for customer management, payments, data and player protection.

Playtech Poker

Playtech continues to operate its iPoker network and remains active in online poker technology.

The company develops poker software, network services and player-retention tools for partner operators.

Its poker business remains active in 2026. Playtech recently expanded its North American presence by integrating iPoker into a new FanDuel poker product.

Playtech Bingo

Bingo has been part of Playtech’s portfolio for many years and remains an important product area.

The company supplies bingo platforms, networks and content to online operators and continues to secure new partnerships. Playtech describes its bingo product as an omnichannel solution designed to connect digital and retail gaming environments.

Playtech Sports Betting

Playtech is also a major supplier of sportsbook technology for online, mobile and retail operators.

The sports product includes betting platforms, trading and risk-management technology, retail systems and related services.

This side of the business means Playtech is considerably broader than a conventional casino software provider.

Mobile Playtech Games

Mobile gaming no longer requires the separate “Mobile Hub” approach described in our original review.

Modern Playtech casino games are developed for HTML5 and browser-based play, allowing compatible titles to work across desktop computers, smartphones and tablets.

Operators can offer casino games, jackpots and live dealer tables through responsive mobile websites and apps without players needing the type of downloadable casino software that was common in Playtech’s early years.

Playtech Licensing and Regulation

Playtech operates across a large number of regulated gambling markets and holds supplier licences in major jurisdictions.

Playtech plc is currently licensed and regulated in Great Britain by the UK Gambling Commission under account number 38516.

The company also holds a Malta Gaming Authority critical gaming supply corporate licence, MGA/CRP/137/2007.

Playtech says it now operates across more than 50 regulated jurisdictions worldwide.

Safer Gambling and BetBuddy

Responsible gambling technology has become an increasingly important part of Playtech’s business.

Its BetBuddy platform uses data and analytics to help operators identify potentially harmful gambling behaviour and intervene where appropriate.

According to Playtech’s 2025 reporting, BetBuddy safer-gambling technology is now used across dozens of gambling brands.

Playtech in the United States and Canada

North America has become an important growth market for Playtech.

The company has expanded its live casino, platform and game distribution across regulated US states and entered Alberta’s regulated online gaming market in 2026.

Playtech’s US Live operation now includes dozens of tables and partnerships with major operators including DraftKings and bet365.

Playtech in South Africa

Playtech also continues to expand its relationships in South Africa.

In January 2026, the company announced a partnership with LottoStar to increase its presence in the South African market.

Playtech Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Operating since 1999
  • One of the industry’s largest B2B technology companies
  • Casino, live casino, poker, bingo and sportsbook products
  • Major regulated-market presence
  • Large live casino operation
  • Well-established progressive jackpot games
  • UKGC and MGA supplier licences
  • Strong operator and platform partnerships

Cons

  • Huge product range can make the company difficult to compare with smaller slot studios
  • Some older games now look dated
  • Individual game RTPs can vary by operator or market
  • Not every Playtech product is available in every jurisdiction

Our Verdict on Playtech

Playtech has moved far beyond being simply a casino software developer. It now supplies almost every major part of the online gambling technology chain, from slots and live casino games to player accounts, poker, bingo and sports betting.

We still think its strongest consumer-facing products are its live casino offering and established slot and jackpot franchises. Age of the Gods in particular remains one of the names most closely associated with Playtech casino games.

The company has also changed significantly since our original review. The Snaitech sale and increased focus on B2B technology make Playtech a more streamlined supplier than it was a few years ago.

For casino players, the most important point is that Playtech remains one of the industry’s largest and most established software names, with games and technology used by major operators across regulated markets worldwide.
