Ruler of the Seas Slot Overview
Ruler of the Seas is an underwater adventure from Playtech’s Age of the Gods series. The star is Poseidon, the mighty Greek god of the sea and brother of Zeus.
He isn’t alone, though. Athena, Medusa, the Cyclops and Pegasus all join him on the reels. Each one brings their own special feature, in both the respins and the free spins.
Like every Age of the Gods game, Ruler of the Seas is linked to four progressive jackpots. Our original review listed an RTP of 96.37% and a top win of 7,500x your stake.

Theme and Design
Ruler of the Seas takes you into Poseidon’s watery kingdom. Our original review called it a visually appealing game, with the gods drawn in a bold, heroic style.
The high-value symbols are the gods and creatures of Greek myth. Poseidon pays the most, followed by Athena, Medusa and the Cyclops. Pegasus also appears, along with the playing card symbols 10 to Ace for smaller wins.
Betting Range and RTP
Our original review listed bets from $0.15 to $150 per spin. That wide range suits both casual players and high rollers.
The RTP in our original review was 96.37%. Part of every bet funds the progressive jackpots, which is included in that figure. Check the help screen at your casino, as the RTP can differ.
The Trident Scatter
The trident is Poseidon’s weapon and the game’s scatter. Our original review said it lands on reels 1, 3 and 5.
Two tridents start a respin feature. Three tridents start the free spins. Both are explained below.
The Five Respin Features
Our original review said landing 2 scatters starts one of five respin features. Each scatter is replaced by a coloured frame. The colour shows which god’s feature you’ve won.
| Respin feature | What happens (original review) |
|---|---|
| Athena (red frame) | A wild landing in the frame expands to the 8 symbols around it |
| Cyclops (green frame) | A wild landing in the frame expands across its row |
| Medusa (purple frame) | Wins in the frame trigger a multiplier, with more respins until there are no more wins |
| Pegasus (blue frame) | Low-paying symbols in the frame all turn into the same symbol |
| Poseidon (yellow frame) | High-paying symbols in the frame turn wild |
If you get two or more purple Medusa frames, the highest multiplier is used.
The Free Spins Options
Three tridents on reels 1, 3 and 5 start the free spins. You then choose one of five options. Each option is named after one of the gods.
Our original review said the free spins use the same modifiers as the respins. The difference is that you get to pick which one you want. The free spins are played on a taller reel set with eight rows, giving up to 90 paylines. You can also win more free spins by landing more scatters.
- Poseidon Free Spins: high-paying symbols in the frame turn wild.
- Pegasus Free Spins: low-paying symbols transform into the same symbol.
- Medusa Free Spins: wins trigger multipliers.
- Cyclops Free Spins: wilds expand across rows.
- Athena Free Spins: wilds expand to the symbols around them.
Our original review said the Medusa free spins can give wins of up to 7,500x your stake.
The Age of the Gods Jackpots
Ruler of the Seas is linked to four progressive jackpots, shared across the Age of the Gods series:
- Power Jackpot: the smallest prize.
- Extra Power Jackpot: the next level up.
- Super Power Jackpot: a bigger prize again.
- Ultimate Power Jackpot: the top prize.
The jackpot game starts at random. Our original review said you’re taken to a new screen. There, you match three coins to win one of the four jackpots.

More Age of the Gods Slots
Age of the Gods is one of Playtech’s best-known series. Each game focuses on a different god or hero, but they all share the same jackpots.
For more games in the series, read our reviews of Furious 4 and Book of Oracle. If you like Poseidon slots, our Ancient Fortunes: Poseidon review covers another sea god game.
Who Was Poseidon?
In Greek myth, Poseidon was the god of the sea, storms and earthquakes. He was one of the most powerful gods on Mount Olympus.
He’s usually shown holding a trident, which he used to stir up the waves. That’s why the trident makes such a fitting scatter symbol in this game.
What We Changed in This Review
- Status note: we’ve added that Playtech doesn’t publish public pages for its older slots.
- Figures: we’ve marked the RTP, bet range and max win as coming from our original review.
- Features: we’ve set out the five respin features in a table.
- Links: we’ve removed a repeated link to our Age of the Gods page.
Is Ruler of the Seas Worth Playing?
Yes, if you enjoy busy games with plenty of features. Each of the five gods brings something different, and choosing your free spins option adds variety. Meanwhile, the jackpots add an extra layer of excitement on every spin.
The main drawback is that we couldn’t confirm the current figures with Playtech. Check the help screen at your casino before you play.
