Birds On A Wire Slot Review: Features, RTP and Bonus Game

Birds On A Wire Slot Overview

Birds On A Wire is one of Thunderkick’s most memorable slots. Instead of normal reels, you get three telephone wires with birds perched along them. On every spin, a new flock flutters in and lands on the wires.

The fun starts when you win. The high voltage generator zaps the winning birds off the wire, and new ones drop down to take their place. Each new win can push a multiplier higher, so one lucky spin can turn into a whole chain of wins.

Theme and Design

Birds On A Wire has a bright, cartoon look that’s hard not to smile at. The setting is a sunny countryside scene, with fields, trees and a big blue sky behind the wires. The birds come in all shapes and colours, and each one has its own cheeky personality.

The sound and animations add to the fun. When birds get zapped, there’s a satisfying crackle of electricity and a puff of feathers. As a result, even small wins feel lively.

Thunderkick is known for quirky, playful slots, and this game is a great example. For more on the studio, see our Thunderkick slots and casinos page.

The birds aren’t just decoration. They are the symbols, and the wires are your reels. Once that clicks, the game is easy to follow.

How to Play Birds On A Wire

Playing Birds On A Wire is simple. First, choose your bet size. Then hit spin and watch the birds land on the wires.

You win by lining up matching birds from left to right across a payline. The game has 17 paylines in total. Bet limits are set by each casino, so check the range at the casino where you play.

There’s also an AutoPlay option. It lets you set a number of spins that play automatically. This is handy if you want to sit back and watch the action.

Birds On A Wire Symbols

The symbols are all birds, apart from the special Wild and Scatter symbols. Each bird pays a different amount, with the bigger and brighter birds usually paying more.

Wild Symbol

The Wild is a big black bird with yellow stripes. It stands in for every other symbol except the Scatter. In other words, it helps you complete more winning lines.

Scatter Symbol

The Scatter is a cardboard box with a cat’s yellow eyes peering out. Land three or more Scatters, and the cat jumps out and scares the birds away. That’s what sets off the free spins bonus game.

Dropping Symbols

Dropping Symbols is the heart of this slot. Every time you win, the birds on the winning line get an electric shock and disappear. Then the birds above drop down to fill the gaps.

If the new birds make another win, the same thing happens again. This keeps going until no new wins appear. So a single spin can give you several wins in a row, all without costing an extra bet.

Other games call this feature “cascading” or “tumbling” reels. Birds On A Wire just gives it a fun, electric twist.

High Voltage Multipliers

The High Voltage Multipliers work hand in hand with Dropping Symbols. In the base game, the multiplier starts at 1x. Each time the dropping birds create another win, the multiplier climbs a level, up to a maximum of 5x.

This means your fourth or fifth win in a chain is worth far more than the first. When the drops stop, the multiplier resets for the next spin.

In the free spins bonus, the multiplier levels are much bigger. This is where the game’s biggest wins usually come from, with a top prize of 9,000x your bet.

Free Spins Bonus Game

Three or more cardboard box Scatters trigger the free spins bonus. The cat leaps out, the birds fly off, and the game moves to a new set of wires.

You start with 10 free spins. Extra Scatters can add more spins to your total. During the bonus, Dropping Symbols still work as normal. However, the High Voltage Multipliers start higher and climb to much bigger levels than in the base game.

This combination is what makes the bonus so exciting. A long chain of drops with a big multiplier can lead to a very large win.

Inwinity Spin

Inwinity Spin is one of Thunderkick’s signature features. It kicks in after your last free spin. If that spin doesn’t win, the reels keep spinning until you land a win.

In other words, the bonus round always finishes with a win. It’s a nice safety net, especially if the free spins haven’t gone your way.

RTP and Volatility

Birds On A Wire has an RTP of 96.1%. RTP stands for “return to player”. It’s the share of all bets a slot pays back over a very long time. For example, an RTP of 96.1% means the game pays back around $96.10 for every $100 bet across millions of spins.

That’s slightly above the average for online slots. If RTP matters to you, our list of the best paying slots is worth a look.

Thunderkick rates the game as medium volatility. This means wins come along fairly often, with the chance of some bigger payouts in between. As a result, it suits most players, whether you like steady play or the odd big hit.

Playing on Mobile

Birds On A Wire works smoothly on phones and tablets. The game runs in your browser, so there’s nothing to download. The cartoon graphics look sharp on smaller screens, and the controls are easy to use with a thumb.
