Cosmic Quest: Mission Control Slot Overview
Cosmic Quest: Mission Control is a fun, retro space adventure from Rival Gaming. It plays on 5 reels and 3 rows with 20 adjustable paylines. Some casinos list it as Cosmic Quest Episode 1.
The game is part of Rival’s i-Slot range. These slots tell a story that unfolds as you play. Mission Control is the first chapter of the Cosmic Quest series, and the adventure continues in the sequel, Cosmic Quest: Mystery Planets.
You’ll blast off on a journey through the stars, meeting astronauts, space dogs and a rather cheeky Space Monkey. Along the way, there are expanding wilds in free spins and an arcade-style shoot-’em-up bonus game. We refreshed this review in October 2026 to check each feature and update some older details.

Theme and Graphics
Cosmic Quest has a playful, old-school sci-fi look. Think classic B-movie space adventures rather than serious modern sci-fi. The colourful cartoon artwork is full of imagination and humour, and the reels sit against a backdrop of deep space.
The soundtrack adds to the mood. A futuristic tune plays in the background, along with eerie twinkling sounds that remind you of the inside of a spaceship. Winning combinations also trigger short, comic animations.
The symbols match the retro theme. You will see rival astronauts, a space dog, a space station, satellites, a ray gun and tubes of space food. Space is one of the most popular slot themes, and this game gives it a light, cheeky twist.
What Is an i-Slot?
Rival’s i-Slots are story-driven slots. Instead of standing alone, each spin moves you through a short adventure. In some i-Slots, you unlock new scenes or levels as you play.
Cosmic Quest takes this further by splitting the story across two games. Mission Control is the first episode, where your space mission begins. The story then carries on in Mystery Planets, which takes you further out into the galaxy.
Rival has made many other games over the years. You can read about some of them in our reviews of Diamonds Downunder and Summer Ease.
Cosmic Quest Betting Range
The game gives you plenty of control over your stake. First, choose to play between 1 and 20 paylines. Next, bet 1 to 10 coins on each line. Finally, set a coin value from 0.01 to 0.25.
At the lowest setting, one line with one coin at 0.01 costs just 0.01 per spin. At the top end, 20 lines with 10 coins at 0.25 each costs 50 per spin. As a result, the game suits both casual players and those who like a slightly bigger bet.
RTP and Volatility
Most listings, including our older review, give Cosmic Quest: Mission Control an RTP of 95%. However, one listing shows a much higher figure of 98.64%. This may be because more than one version of the game exists.
Topboss Group tip: open the game’s help screen before you play. It shows the exact RTP your casino is running, which may differ from figures you see online.
The skill-based bonus game also affects your returns. How much you win there depends partly on how well you play. If you’d like to learn more about RTP, see our guide to RTP and online slots. For games with a confirmed high return, browse our list of slots with the best RTP.
Cosmic Quest Symbols and Payouts
The regular symbols each pay a different amount. The rival astronauts are the most valuable, while the tubes of space food pay the least. Here are the top payouts listed for each symbol.
| Symbol | Pays up to |
|---|---|
| Rival astronauts | 750x |
| Space station | 350x |
| Space dog | 300x |
| Ray gun | 150x |
| Satellite | 100x |
| Space food tubes | 65x |
Red Rocket Wild
The Red Rocket is the wild. It replaces all other symbols to help form wins, except the scatter and bonus symbols. In the base game, it acts as a normal wild.
The Rocket is also the key to the game’s top prize. Land five on an active payline, and you win the 5,000-coin jackpot. During free spins, it becomes even more useful, as we explain below.
Space Monkey Scatter
The Space Monkey is the scatter. It can land anywhere on the reels, and it doesn’t need to sit on a payline. Three or more Space Monkeys trigger the free spins round.
Pink Pilot Bonus Symbol
The Pink Pilot is the bonus symbol. Land three or more across the reels, and you launch the Asteroid Blasteroid bonus game.
Cosmic Quest Bonus Features
The game has two main features. Here is a quick summary before we look at each one.
- Free Spins: three or more Space Monkeys award 10 free spins with expanding wilds.
- Asteroid Blasteroid: three or more Pink Pilots start a skill-based shoot-’em-up game.
Free Spins with Expanding Wilds
Land three or more Space Monkey scatters to win 10 free spins. During this round, the Red Rocket wild works differently. Whenever it lands, it expands to cover the whole reel.
A full reel of wilds can help you complete several winning lines at once. So the more Rockets you land during free spins, the bigger your wins can be. If you like expanding wilds, you may also enjoy Starburst, another space-themed slot built around them.
Asteroid Blasteroid Bonus Game
Asteroid Blasteroid is the highlight of Cosmic Quest. It is a short arcade-style game that feels like a classic space shooter. When you trigger it, a new screen opens with your spaceship facing an asteroid belt.
Your job is to steer the ship and blast as many asteroids as you can. Each asteroid has a set value, and different sizes are worth different amounts. When the round ends, your prize is the total value of all the asteroids you destroyed.
Because this bonus uses skill, your result depends partly on your aim and timing. That makes it more hands-on than most slot bonuses. It also means two players can win different amounts from the same trigger.
Autoplay
Autoplay spins the reels for a chosen number of rounds without stopping. It is handy if you want a quicker session. Even so, set a budget before you use it, so you stay in control. Our online slots tips have more ideas.
How to Play Cosmic Quest: Mission Control
Getting started is simple. Follow these steps to begin your space mission.
- Choose your lines: select between 1 and 20 paylines.
- Pick your coins: bet 1 to 10 coins per line.
- Set the coin value: choose a value from 0.01 to 0.25.
- Spin: press Spin, or use Autoplay for a run of spins.
- Watch for specials: Space Monkeys bring free spins, and Pink Pilots start the bonus game.
Regular wins pay from left to right along your active paylines. Space Monkey scatters are different, as they count wherever they land.
Mission Control vs Mystery Planets
If you enjoy the first episode, the sequel is the natural next step. Both games share the same retro space style and sense of humour. Mystery Planets continues the story, taking your mission further out into the galaxy.
As a general rule, it is worth playing Mission Control first. That way, you get the story in the right order. After that, Mystery Planets adds its own new features while keeping the same light-hearted feel.
Playing Cosmic Quest Online and on Mobile
Cosmic Quest: Mission Control is one of Rival’s older titles. It first appeared in the Flash era, when most players used desktop computers. Today, it is not available at every Rival casino, and the skill-based bonus may not run on every device.
If you want to play on your phone or tablet, check that your casino lists the game in its mobile lobby first. Where it is available, playing in a mobile browser means you don’t need to download anything.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Fun retro space theme with lots of humour
- Skill-based Asteroid Blasteroid bonus game
- Expanding Rocket wilds in free spins
- Flexible bets from 0.01 to 50
- Story continues in a sequel
Cons
- RTP figures vary between sources
- Only 10 free spins per trigger
- Dated graphics compared to new slots
- Older title, so harder to find
Our Verdict
Cosmic Quest: Mission Control is a cheerful space romp with real character. The expanding wilds give the free spins a boost, and Asteroid Blasteroid is one of the most fun bonus games Rival has made. The graphics are dated, and the game can be hard to find. Still, if you like slots with a story and a hands-on bonus, it’s well worth a launch.
More Space Slots to Try
If you’re hooked on space adventures, there are plenty more to explore. Aliens takes a much darker, film-inspired approach, while Cosmic Crystals offers a sparkling, gem-filled take on the cosmos. For a festive twist, try Space Christmas.
