Magic Mushrooms Slot Review: A Trip Through an Enchanted Forest
Magic Mushrooms is a Video Slot by Yggdrasil Gaming Software and has 40 paylines and 5 reels.
Feel like getting away for a night? This is the game for you. Magic Mushrooms Slot transports you to a magical night in the forest, filled with an abundance of magical mushrooms.
The forest is dark and almost unnoticeable during the day. At night, it magically comes to life, lighting up with angelic glows and colours. You’re left to your own devices when navigating through the forest, with only the moonlight to guide you as you push through the thick foliage.
This game is utterly cute and has amazing features to keep you coming back for more. The features include Free Spins, Multipliers and Spreading Wild Symbols.
The graphics are magical, and the sound effects are realistic. Together, they enhance the authenticity of a magical forest filled with magic mushrooms.
Yggdrasil has a habit of putting an unusual spin on classic slot formats, and Magic Mushrooms is a great example. Rather than a standard grid, the reels sit in a hexagonal shape and pay both ways, which is rare even among Yggdrasil’s own back catalogue.
Magic Mushrooms Betting Range
Magic Mushroom’s minimum coin value is 0.01, with a maximum of 0.50. The minimum and maximum coins per line are both 1. When placing your bets, the minimum amount is 0.40 and the maximum bet is 20.
Players can win both ways, from left to right and from right to left, since there are twenty paylines on the hexagonal reels. This means the player effectively gets 40 paylines. The RTP on this game is 96.4%.
A 96.4% RTP is a solid, above-average figure. Paying both ways on 20 base paylines is what pushes the effective payline count up to 40, giving you more chances to land a win on every single spin than a standard one-direction slot would offer.
A Magical Journey
This HD, high-quality game is packed with features: Free Spins, Magical Multipliers, Scatters and Spreading Wilds. The 3D graphics and fast gameplay add even more to the magic of the game.
We recommend you take this “trip” and enjoy the magic the mushrooms have to offer.
The Magic Is in the Symbols
The symbols enhance the theme of this slot game. You’ll come across colourful mushrooms, odd-looking frogs, birds, snails and lizards. Look closely and you’ll notice that winning symbols get an extra magical glow.
Yggdrasil has really gone all out here. Some of the mushrooms create magical tentacles across the reels, adding to the picturesque scene.
The magic doesn’t end there. The game also features an alluring diamond-shaped window, with between 3 and 5 symbols on each reel. This is rather unusual, and it adds to the mystery and fantasy created by all the other features.
Wild About Mushrooms
This slot has 3 different Wild Symbols, each with its own function:
- Purple Mushroom Wild: appears on reels 1 and 5
- Blue Mushroom Wild: appears on reels 2 and 4, carrying a multiplier value between 2x and 10x
- Red Mushroom Wild: appears on reel 3 only
If the magic of the mushrooms is on your side and you land the Red Wild, it spreads its tentacles across the reels. This turns up to 4 more icons into Wilds anywhere on the reels. This transformation is magical, and it can help you build multiple winning combinations at once.
Magic Mushrooms Scatter Symbols
The Scatter Symbols are pink snails. They trigger the Free Spins feature when you land 3 or more on the reels. The number of Free Spins depends on how many Scatters land:
- 3 Scatters: 10 Free Spins
- 4 Scatters: 20 Free Spins
- 5 Scatters: 75 Free Spins
That jump from 20 to 75 Free Spins for a fifth Scatter is a big one. Landing all 5 is rare, but it’s exactly the kind of moment that makes chasing this slot’s Free Spins feature worthwhile.
Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Unusual hexagonal reels that pay both ways | Unconventional layout may take a few spins to get used to |
| Three distinct Wild types add real variety to the base game | Jump from 4 to 5 Scatters is a big gap in Free Spins reward |
| Solid 96.4% RTP | Multiplier only applies to the Blue Mushroom Wild |
| Charming, atmospheric forest theme with strong visuals | Low starting Free Spins count (10) for landing the minimum 3 Scatters |
Final Verdict
Magic Mushrooms is a genuinely different slot, both in how it looks and how it plays. The hexagonal reels, pay-both-ways mechanic, and three separate Wild types give it a personality most straightforward video slots don’t have.
If you land 5 Scatters, the 75 Free Spins on offer make for a truly voilà moment. Between the strong RTP and the charming forest theme, this is a solid pick for players who want something a little different from Yggdrasil.
