Charms and Witches Slot Overview
Charms and Witches is a magical Halloween slot from NextGen Gaming, made together with Side City Studios. It takes you into an enchanted forest at midnight, where witches, black cats and spooky creatures watch from the shadows. Despite the setting, the mood is mysterious rather than frightening.
Based on our original review, the game plays on 5 reels with 25 paylines. The star feature is the Spooky Bat, a swarm of bats that can fly across the screen and turn symbols wild. On top of that, there are free spins with a 2x multiplier and a Pick Me bonus game full of potion bottles.
We refreshed this review in October 2026 to make it clearer and easier to follow. Our older review sometimes mixed up the game’s name, so we’ve tidied that up too.

Theme and Graphics
Charms and Witches is set in an enchanted forest in the dead of night. Rusty gates creak open onto a pitch-black sky, and pumpkins are scattered across the ground. The moon is the only light, and you get the feeling that something is always watching.
The symbols are full of witchy charm. You’ll meet a black cat, a roguish rat, a green toad and a raven holding a golden key. A blonde enchantress is the top-paying regular symbol. Meanwhile, witches’ hats, pointy slippers, scarecrows, brooms and bubbling potions fill out the reels.
As a result, the game feels like a fairy tale with a spooky twist. It’s a good fit for players who want a magical Halloween mood without blood or gore.
Betting, RTP and Volatility
Our original review listed a bet range of $0.25 to $625 per spin, with adjustable paylines and stakes. It also gave an RTP of 95.53%, with medium volatility. Light & Wonder doesn’t publish these on a public game page, so we couldn’t confirm them today.
An RTP of 95.53% would be slightly below the average for modern slots. In simple terms, the game would be expected to pay back a little less over time. Our guide to RTP and online slots explains how this works in plain English.
Topboss Group tip: The Spooky Bat feature can turn ordinary spins into wins. It lands more often in the free spins, so that’s where this game really comes alive.
Charms and Witches Symbols
Door Knocker Wild
The wild is a large door knocker with the word Wild on it. It stands in for regular symbols to help complete wins. Our original review said it was the most valuable symbol in the game.
Bat Scatter
The bat is the scatter. Three or more anywhere on the reels start the free spins. Our original review said five bats paid 100x your stake.
Potion Bonus Symbol
The potion bottle is the bonus symbol. Three or more on reels 2, 3 and 4 start the Pick Me bonus game.
Charms and Witches Bonus Features
Here’s a quick summary of the features from our original review:
- Spooky Bat feature: bats fly across the reels at random and turn symbols wild.
- Free spins: 10 free spins with all wins doubled.
- Pick Me bonus: pick potion bottles to reveal instant prizes.
Spooky Bat Feature
At random, a swarm of bats can sweep across the screen. When they do, they turn random symbols into wilds. That can complete several lines in one go. This feature can appear in the base game, but it shows up far more often during the free spins.
Free Spins
Land three or more bat scatters to win 10 free spins. During the round, every win is doubled with a 2x multiplier. In addition, the free spins can be retriggered by landing more bats, so a good round can keep going.
Pick Me Bonus
Three or more potion bottles on reels 2, 3 and 4 start the Pick Me bonus. You choose bottles one at a time to reveal instant prizes. If you find another Pick Me, you get to choose again. There’s also a Win All bottle, which reveals all the remaining prizes at once.
How to Play Charms and Witches
Charms and Witches is simple to learn. Follow these steps:
- Choose your lines and stake: set the paylines and bet that suit your budget.
- Spin the reels: press Spin, or use Autoplay for a set number of rounds.
- Watch for bats: three or more bat scatters start 10 free spins.
- Look for potions: three on reels 2, 3 and 4 start the Pick Me bonus.
- Enjoy the Spooky Bats: they can turn symbols wild at any time.
What We Changed in This Review
- Game name: our older review sometimes called the game Charms and Riches or Witches and Charms. Its correct name is Charms and Witches.
- Studio ownership: NextGen Gaming is now part of Light & Wonder, so we’ve added that.
- Figures: we couldn’t confirm the RTP, bets or payouts from the studio, so we’ve marked them as coming from our original review.
Playing Charms and Witches on Mobile
Charms and Witches was released with a mobile version, so you can play on phones and tablets as well as desktop computers. Most casinos run it in your mobile browser, so there’s no app to download. The rich forest artwork also looks good on a smaller screen.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Magical, atmospheric forest theme
- Spooky Bat wilds in base game and free spins
- Free spins wins are doubled
- Separate Pick Me bonus game
Cons
- Current status not confirmed by the studio
- RTP in our original review was below average
- Pick Me prizes are instant wins only
- Not scary enough for horror fans
Our Verdict
Charms and Witches is a charming, well-made witch slot with plenty going on. The Spooky Bat feature keeps every spin interesting, and the doubled free spins are a real highlight. The RTP in our original review was a touch low, and we couldn’t confirm the game’s current details. Even so, if you find it at your casino, it’s a lovely magical pick for Halloween.
