What Happened to Astro Babes?
Astro Babes was a retro sci-fi slot from Playtech. It took players to a futuristic city on a distant planet, where five female astronauts ran the show. The game had 100 paylines, stacked character symbols and a free spins round called the Hyperspace Delivery Bonus.
For several years, you could find it at most Playtech casinos. However, that’s no longer the case. We checked for Astro Babes at Playtech casinos in October 2026 and couldn’t find it anywhere. One major casino’s Astro Babes page now simply redirects to its main games lobby.
Playtech hasn’t announced anything about the game. Even so, studios regularly retire older titles to make room for new releases. Playtech says it launches more than 60 new games every year, so older slots like Astro Babes tend to drop out of casino lobbies over time.
You may still see Astro Babes on demo and review websites. These sites often keep old games online long after real-money casinos have removed them. So if you see a “play now” button for Astro Babes, check carefully where it leads.
Who Made Astro Babes?
Astro Babes was made by Playtech, one of the biggest names in casino software. The company has been making games since 1999. Today, it’s best known for long-running series such as Age of the Gods and Fire Blaze, as well as branded slots based on famous films and TV shows.
Astro Babes belonged to an earlier era of Playtech slots. It was a standalone game rather than part of a series. As a result, it never got the sequels or jackpot versions that kept other Playtech games going.
Theme and Design
The game had a fun, retro look inspired by old science fiction films. The background showed a futuristic city, and the soundtrack set a dreamy, space-age mood. The high-definition graphics were impressive for the time.
The stars of the show were five astronauts, each in her own coloured spacesuit:
- Bonny in gold
- Roxy in red
- Violet in purple
- Betsy in blue
- Gwen in green
The lower-paying symbols were space-age tools and gadgets. These included a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher, a ray gun, a walkie talkie and a wrench. The game also played on desktop computers, tablets and phones.
How Astro Babes Worked
Astro Babes used five reels and 100 paylines. Each astronaut had her own reel, and she could only land there. This simple rule was the key to the game’s main feature.
Wild Symbol
The gold Wild symbol replaced every other symbol except the scatter. It was also the game’s top-paying symbol. Our original review listed the Wild payouts as 80x, 500x or 5,000x the line stake for three, four or five on a line.
Astro Wild Feature
The astronauts were stacked symbols, so each one could cover her whole reel from top to bottom. When that happened, the reel turned into a Wild reel. In other words, a few well-timed astronauts could fill several reels with Wilds at once.
Hyperspace Delivery Bonus
The spaceship was the scatter symbol. Landing three or more anywhere on the reels started the Hyperspace Delivery Bonus. The number of free spins depended on how many scatters you landed.
| Scatters | Free spins |
|---|---|
| 3 | 12 |
| 4 | 20 |
| 5 | 50 |
The free spins made the Astro Wild feature much easier to hit. During the bonus, any astronaut who landed on her own reel would nudge up or down to fill it. As a result, even a partly visible astronaut could turn her reel Wild. This was where the game’s biggest wins usually came from.
Autoplay and Turbo Mode
Players could also set the reels to spin automatically for a chosen number of rounds. A Turbo mode made the reels spin faster than normal.
RTP, Betting and Payouts
Astro Babes had a return to player (RTP) of 95.06%. That’s a little below today’s average of around 96%. In practice, it means the game was slightly less generous over the long run than many newer slots.
Our original review listed a betting range of 1.00 to 500.00 per spin. Here’s how the main symbols paid for five on a line, according to that review.
| Symbol | Top payout (line stake) |
|---|---|
| Gold Wild | 5,000x |
| Bonny (gold) | 800x |
| Roxy (red) and Violet (purple) | 500x |
| Betsy (blue) and Gwen (green) | 300x |
We couldn’t confirm the bet range or these payouts today, because no official version of the game is available to check. Some other sources also quote a much lower maximum win. So please treat these figures as a historical guide only.
Topboss Group tip: if a site still offers Astro Babes for real money, check that it’s a properly licensed casino first. Old games sometimes linger on sites you’d be better off avoiding.
Can You Still Play Astro Babes?
Probably not for real money. We couldn’t find Astro Babes at any Playtech casino when we checked in October 2026. Playtech doesn’t list it among its current games either.
You may still come across free demo versions on review sites. However, these aren’t official Playtech pages, so we can’t vouch for them. If you want a similar experience with real-money play, the slots below are a much better option.
Slots to Play Instead
If you enjoyed Astro Babes, these slots offer a similar mix of stacked features, free spins and big-win potential:
- Age of the Gods, Playtech’s flagship series since 2016, with four progressive jackpots in every game.
- Fire Blaze Jackpots, a hugely popular Playtech series built around a Hold and Respin feature.
- Sky Queen, a Fire Blaze slot that Playtech names as one of its chart-toppers across Europe.
- Blue Wizard, another of Playtech’s most popular Fire Blaze games.
- Kingdoms Rise, a Playtech series with linked jackpots across its games.
