Neptune’s Quest WMS Slot Review
Neptune’s Quest takes you down to the lost city of Atlantis. The slot comes from WMS and has an unusual reel layout, a moving Wild Octopus and free spins that can trigger in two ways. Many players know it from WMS casinos online.
The main character is Neptune, the Roman god of water. He is the Roman equivalent of Poseidon, and he leads a cast of mermaids, fish and sea creatures across the reels.
A note on sources first. WMS slots now sit within Light & Wonder, and we explain the change in our guide to WMS slots and Light & Wonder. The Light & Wonder iGaming portfolio currently lists a title called Neptunes Quest as “Coming Soon”, with no other details. We cannot confirm whether that is the same game. As a result, the figures below come from our original review and are marked that way.

Theme And Atmosphere
Atlantis is a favourite theme for slot designers. The idea of a sunken city full of treasure is hard to resist. Neptune’s Quest adds a Roman twist by putting Neptune at the centre of the story.
The symbols give the game its flavour. Mermaids, tridents and water bulls all fit the sea-myth setting. The Wild Octopus, or Great Kraken, plays the role of the deep-sea monster.
The mix of myth and ocean life gives the game a clear identity. You always know where you are, and the bonus features feel connected to the story.
Atlantis games remain popular because they suit big bonus rounds. A hidden city invites players to explore, and free spins feel like a dive into the unknown.
The Unusual Reel Layout
Most slots use a simple grid of five reels. Neptune’s Quest does not. According to our original review, it has two sets of 2×2 reels on the left. That makes eight small reels in total. Next to them sit three larger reels with six rows each.
This gives the game 11 reels altogether. The layout is a big part of its appeal. It looks different from the usual slot, and it opens up extra ways to trigger the bonus.
The mega symbols add to the effect. Large symbols can cover several positions at once, which makes big line wins easier to land.
Symbols In Neptune’s Quest
The lower-paying symbols are the royals: A, K, Q and J. The themed symbols include shells, fish, starfish, tridents, mermaids, water bulls and Neptune himself.
Neptune and the Wild are the most rewarding. Each pays 5x your stake for five across a payline.
| Symbol | Value | Role |
|---|---|---|
| A, K, Q, J | Low | Frequent small wins |
| Shells, fish, starfish | Medium | Mid-range wins |
| Tridents, mermaids, water bulls | High | Better line wins |
| Neptune | Top paying | 5x your stake for five on a line |
| Wild Octopus | Wild | Replaces all symbols except the Scatter |
The Wild Octopus
The Wild is the Wild Octopus, also known as the Great Kraken. It replaces every symbol except the Scatter.
It also has a transferring feature, which means Wilds can move across the reels. That helps build wins over several spins.
During the free spins, an extended Wild appears on reel 11. This makes the bonus much more rewarding.
Free Spins
The free spins can trigger in more than one way. Our original review lists two routes.
- Matching symbols. Match four symbols within one or both of the two smaller reel sets on the left.
- Scatters. Land three Scatters on reels 9, 10 and 11. That pays 100x your stake and gives 20 free spins.
Triggering the feature with matching symbols holds them in place for the whole bonus. That gives you a head start on every spin.
The rewards keep coming. Scatters that land on reels 9, 10 and 11 during the feature add 5 more free spins. The extended Wild stays on reel 11 as well.
| Trigger | How it happens | Reward (original review) |
|---|---|---|
| Matching symbols | Four symbols in the small reel sets | Held in place for the bonus |
| Scatters | Three Scatters on reels 9, 10 and 11 | 100x stake and 20 free spins |
| Retrigger | Scatters on reels 9, 10 and 11 in the bonus | 5 extra free spins |
Our original review states that you can win up to 500x your bet on every free spin. That is a strong figure, but it is a best-case result. Treat it as a ceiling, not a typical outcome.
Betting Range And RTP
Bets run from 0.50 to 250.00 per spin in our original review. That range suits cautious players and high rollers alike.
The RTP is 96.39%, which is slightly above the typical online slot average. Our guide to RTP and online slots explains how to read the figure.
RTP is a long-term average over a huge number of spins. It does not tell you what will happen in a single session. Casinos can also offer different RTP settings, so check the help screen.
Playing On Mobile
The slot is listed for desktop, mobile and tablet in our site data. The odd reel layout can feel crowded on a small screen. The larger reels remain easy to read, though, and the symbols are bold.
If you play on a phone, turn it sideways. You will see more of the layout and spot the small reel sets more easily.
How To Play Neptune’s Quest
- Open the paytable and read the rules.
- Choose a bet that fits your budget.
- Watch the two small reel sets on the left for matching symbols.
- Look for Scatters on reels 9, 10 and 11.
- Stop when you reach your budget or time limit.
Tips For Neptune’s Quest
No tip can change the odds. Every spin is random. These habits can still improve your session.
Try a demo first if your casino offers one. It lets you see how the small reels work before you risk any money.
Choose a bet that lets you play for a while. With 100 paylines, wins come in many shapes, and a modest stake gives the features time to trigger.
Finally, set a time limit as well as a budget. The large layout and bonus chances can make sessions pass quickly.
Pros And Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Unusual 11-reel layout | Game details cannot be confirmed from Light & Wonder |
| Free spins that trigger in two ways | Layout can feel busy on small screens |
| Moving Wild Octopus and extended Wild | Older design compared with newer slots |
| Up to 500x per free spin in our original review | Bonus wins depend on hard-to-land triggers |
Who Is It For?
This slot suits players who want something different from the usual five-reel grid. If you like Atlantis themes and bonus features that build up, it is a good fit.
Players who prefer simple rules may find the layout confusing at first. A few demo spins will clear that up.
