The Dark Knight Rises Slot Review by Microgaming
The Dark Knight Rises is a movie slot from Microgaming that follows the 2012 Warner Bros film. It went live with operators in September 2013 under the studio’s licence with DC Entertainment.
The game has five reels and 243 ways to win. You also choose between two free spin paths, one for Batman and one for Bane. Real film clips and the movie’s music set a dark, tense mood.
This review explains the symbols, the bonus features and the free spins. We also cover the bet range, the RTP and the smartwatch option.

| Release | September 2013 |
| Layout | 5 reels, 243 ways to win |
| Bet range | $0.01 to $7.50 per spin |
| RTP | 96.41% |

| Scatter | Bomb |
| Free spins | Batman or Bane path |
| Platforms | Desktop, mobile, tablet and smartwatch |
Theme, Graphics and Sound
The slot has a gloriously gloomy feel. It matches the mood of the Batman films, where a sense of doom always lingers. It is not a cheerful game. Even so, the rewards keep you spinning.
The designers used real photography from the film. Its visuals sit well with the soundtrack. The same compelling music plays during the game, so it builds tension at just the right moments.

Betting Range
Bets start at $0.01 and go up to $7.50 per spin. The listed RTP is 96.41%. That suits small budgets, and most players will find a comfortable level.
High rollers may find the top stake a little low. Even so, the 243 ways format gives you plenty of winning routes at any stake you choose.
Symbols and Paytable
The high paying symbols are Batman, Bane, Catwoman, John Blake, Miranda Tate and Commissioner Gordon. The low paying symbols are the card values J, Q, K and A.
| Symbol | Role |
|---|---|
| Batman | High paying character |
| Bane | High paying character |
| Catwoman | High paying character |
| John Blake | High paying character |
| Miranda Tate | High paying character |
| Commissioner Gordon | High paying character |
| J, Q, K, A | Low paying symbols |
Because the game uses 243 ways, matching symbols pay when they land on neighbouring reels from the left.
Wild and Scatter Symbols
The Dark Knight Rises Wild
The game logo is the wild. It replaces every symbol except the scatter. As a result, it helps complete wins across the 243 ways.
Expanding Wild
A wild on reel 3 expands to cover the whole reel. This can link many winning routes in a single spin.
Bomb Scatter
The scatter is a bomb. Land at least three of them anywhere on the reels to start the free spins feature.
A Dark City of Bonus Features
The Free Spins Accumulator
Batman and Bane can clash during the base game. Each time a blow lands, you earn free spins and multipliers. Those prizes build up over time.
This feature gives the base game extra purpose. You are always working towards the next bonus.
Scramble Feature
This feature can strike at random on any spin that did not win. First, the screen vibrates. Then the symbols rearrange to form the best possible winning combination.
Free Spins
Land three or more bomb scatters to start the round. You then choose between two paths.
| Path | What it offers |
|---|---|
| Batman Free Spins | Extra wilds from the first trigger and heat-seeking wilds from the tenth. A Wild Blast turns a chosen symbol wild, and heat-seeking wilds can split in two. |
| Bane Free Spins | Rolling reels and super stacked wilds. |
Batman suits players who like wilds spreading across the grid. Bane suits those who prefer chain reactions and big stacks.
Why Players Still Like This Slot
Film slots often fade quickly. This one has stayed popular for a simple reason. It respects its source material. Clips, music and villains all feel true to the movie.
The gameplay also holds up. Its free spins accumulator, the scramble and the choice of free spin paths give you several things to watch. As a result, the base game rarely feels dull. You also get enough variety to keep a long session fresh, even at low stakes.
| Feature | Why it helps |
|---|---|
| Free spins accumulator | Builds spins and multipliers before the bonus starts |
| Scramble | Turns some losing spins into wins |
| Expanding wild | Covers reel 3 for more winning routes |
| Two free spin paths | Lets you pick your own style |
Smartwatch Play
Microgaming adapted this slot so you can play it on a smartwatch. That was a new idea at the time. It works well for short spins on the go.
Read more about the trend in our guide to smartwatch gambling at online casinos. The slot also runs on desktop, mobile and tablet.
RTP and Volatility
The RTP is 96.41%. That is a little above the 96% that many slots offer. Over a very long run, the game returns about $96.41 for every $100 staked.
Short sessions vary a lot. Luck decides the result in the short term. Our guide to RTP and online slots explains the figure in plain English.

Strategy and Bankroll Tips
- Pick a stake that gives you at least 150 spins.
- Aim for the free spins, since that is where the best wins sit.
- Test both free spin paths in a demo if you can.
- Set a loss limit before you start.
- Take regular breaks.
No tip changes the odds. Each spin is random, and past results never affect the next one.
Mobile and Demo Play
The slot runs in a mobile browser on phones and tablets. The film clips look sharp, and the controls are simple. You do not need to download anything.
Many casinos offer a demo version. Try it to learn the features first and to see how both free spin paths feel. If you want somewhere to practise, see our guide to free online slots. You can also browse a slot game collection to compare styles.
