SoftSwiss and Yggdrasil Partnership

SoftSwiss became a franchisee of Scandinavian studio Yggdrasil in 2020. SoftSwiss announced the deal on 30 July 2020. The agreement took effect on 18 August 2020.

The franchise model lets a partner use Yggdrasil’s games and distribute them to its own clients. It also gives the partner access to Yggdrasil’s tools. SoftSwiss said it would use the content across key regions. It did not name specific countries.

Yggdrasil’s Head of Publishing, Bjorn Krantz, said the model gives partners control over their iGaming strategy and new revenue streams. SoftSwiss’s Chief Commercial Officer, Max Trafimovich, said the company was pleased to join the network.

Update: This page was first written in 2020. We have refreshed the SoftSwiss company details with more recent information. Some older claims could not be verified, so we have corrected or removed them.

The Deal at a Glance

Detail Information
Announced 30 July 2020
Effective 18 August 2020
Deal type Yggdrasil franchise agreement
Tools included BOOST promotional tool and GATI technology
Other franchisees Azure Tech, Flow Gaming and SoftGamings
SoftSwiss content at the time Over 10,000 games from more than 60 providers

What SoftSwiss Gained

The agreement gave SoftSwiss several things.

  • Yggdrasil content. SoftSwiss could distribute the YG game portfolio to its casino partners.
  • BOOST. This is Yggdrasil’s promotional toolkit. It supports campaigns that operators run around the games.
  • GATI. This is a distribution and development feature. SoftSwiss could use it to build its own releases on the franchisee platform.
  • A network of peers. SoftSwiss could work with the other Yggdrasil franchisees.

Yggdrasil’s games were already popular with players. Franchising them widened the number of casinos that could offer them.

About SoftSwiss

SoftSwiss is an iGaming software company. It marked its 15th anniversary on 21 July 2024, so it began around 2009. Our original page said 2008. We could not verify that year.

The company works from Malta, Poland and Georgia. SoftSwiss said in 2024 that it employed more than 2,000 people across 30 countries. More than 20% of them work in Poland.

Our earlier text also said SoftSwiss is headquartered in Curacao, with software developed in Belarus. We could not verify either claim from current company sources. We have removed them. What we can say is that Malta is described as its European base and strategic hub.

What SoftSwiss Offers Today

SoftSwiss has grown a lot since 2020. Its products now cover four main areas.

  • Casino platform. A full platform for running an online casino.
  • Game aggregator. One connection to games from many studios. The aggregator passed 20,000 games in 2024.
  • Jackpot aggregator. A tool for jackpot games.
  • Sportsbook. A betting product that sits alongside the casino platform.

The company says its software powers more than 1,350 brands. Its casino platform reached its 13th anniversary in 2026. SoftSwiss reports more than 250 casino brands on that platform and about six million monthly active players. These are the company’s own figures. We have not checked them independently.

SoftSwiss is also known for crypto gambling. It won “Crypto Company of the Year” in 2024. That fits our earlier description of it as a major name in Bitcoin gaming software. We have dropped the older claim that it is “the world’s leading” company in that field, because we cannot prove it.

How a Franchise Deal Works

Yggdrasil sells its games through a franchise model. A franchisee gets the right to distribute the content. It also gets tools to market the games. The franchisee then offers them to its own casino clients.

Yggdrasil’s own description of the model is about control. Partners decide their own iGaming strategy and can build new revenue streams. That was the main commercial reason behind the agreement.

For Yggdrasil, the benefit is reach. Each franchisee brings its own client base. The studio’s games can then appear in casinos it might not serve directly.

SoftSwiss in Regulated Markets

SoftSwiss has moved beyond its crypto roots. The company says its casino platform has operated in regulated markets in Europe. It has also expanded into Latin America and South Africa in recent years.

SoftSwiss said its full product suite was certified for operation in Brazil, ahead of the market’s formal regulation in early 2025. Certification is a technical step. It does not mean every casino on the platform holds a licence there.

Players should still check the licence of each casino. The software supplier and the licence holder are different things.

What It Means for Players

Most players will never read a franchise agreement. The effects still show up in the lobby.

  • Bigger game libraries. A casino on an aggregator can offer thousands of games from one connection.
  • Faster new releases. Aggregators can add new titles to many casinos at once.
  • More promotions. Tools like BOOST help operators run campaigns around specific games.
  • Similar lobbies across sites. Casinos on the same aggregator can look alike. The brand, bonuses and terms are where they differ.

What Is a Game Aggregator?

Most players never notice the aggregator behind a casino. It sits between the casino and the game studios. The casino connects once. The aggregator then supplies games from many studios.

This saves the casino from signing a separate contract with each studio. It also makes it easier to add new games. For players, that means big libraries from one site.

SoftSwiss is one of the best-known aggregators. That is why its deal with Yggdrasil mattered. It put a popular studio’s games into a very large distribution network.

SoftSwiss Online Casinos

Many casinos we have reviewed use SoftSwiss technology or content. SoftSwiss itself names BitStarz as a partner. Casinos on our site that have been linked to SoftSwiss include:

Casinos can change their software suppliers. Always check each review for the latest details. Our guide to online Bitcoin casinos explains how crypto casinos work if you are new to them.

Tip: The software supplier does not decide a casino’s licence or its terms. Check the licence, the bonus rules and the payment methods on the casino itself before you deposit.

How to Pick a Casino Wisely

Knowing the software supplier helps. It does not tell you whether a casino is good. Use this short checklist.

  • Check who holds the licence and which regulator oversees it.
  • Read the bonus terms, especially wagering and withdrawal limits.
  • Look at the payment methods and the fees for each one.
  • Test customer support before you deposit.
  • Set a budget and stick to it.

Crypto casinos add a few extra points. Coin prices move quickly. Check how the casino converts your balance and what it charges for withdrawals.

Why the Partnership Still Matters

The deal was a good example of how the industry works together. Studios, aggregators and platforms rely on each other. Each one focuses on what it does best.

For players, the result is simple. More games reach more casinos. Operators get promotional tools to help them present those games well.

We do not know how long each part of the Yggdrasil franchise arrangement has lasted. The public announcements from 2020 are the source for the details above. We found no public notice that ended the agreement. That is not proof it continues.
