Diamonds Downunder Slot Overview
Diamonds Downunder is a cartoon-style adventure slot from Rival Gaming. It plays on 5 reels and 3 rows with 15 adjustable paylines. The game is also listed under the name “Diamonds Down Under” at some casinos.
The story takes place in a small diamond mining town in the Australian Outback. At the start, a diamond hunter studies a treasure map. Then he heads off across the dusty red desert, with the hot sun beating down, in search of buried gems.
There is plenty to keep you busy. You get a Pick Axe wild, two different scatters, free spins and a treasure-digging bonus game. We refreshed this review in October 2026 to check every feature and correct a few older details.

Theme and Graphics
Diamonds Downunder has a fun, light-hearted take on the Australian Outback. The reels sit against a rocky red desert, framed by artwork inspired by Aboriginal art. In the background, the sound of a didgeridoo sets the scene.
The symbols are full of Aussie favourites. You will spot a kangaroo, a koala, a crocodile, a lizard and a boomerang. There are also cans of beer, sparkling diamonds and a bushman in a classic cork hat.
The cartoon artwork is bright and clear. It is simpler than modern 3D slots, but it has plenty of charm. Australian themes are a long-time favourite, and you will find many more in our guide to popular slot themes.
About Rival Gaming
Rival Gaming has been making online casino games since the mid-2000s. It is best known for its “i-Slots”, which add a storyline that develops as you play. The studio is still active today and continues to release new games.
Rival slots often appear at casinos that welcome players from the United States. Diamonds Downunder is one of its older titles, and it shows Rival’s love of adventure stories and cartoon characters. Other Rival games we have reviewed include Cosmic Quest: Mission Control, Summer Ease and Reel of Fortune.
Diamonds Downunder Betting Range
Diamonds Downunder gives you a lot of control over your stake. First, choose how many of the 15 paylines to play. Next, pick between 1 and 5 coins per line. Finally, set a coin value between 0.01 and 1.00.
At the lowest setting, one line with one coin at 0.01 costs just 0.01 per spin. At the top end, 15 lines with 5 coins at 1.00 each costs 75 per spin. As a result, the game suits both careful players and those who like a bigger bet.
Our older review said the game had 20 paylines. In fact, it uses 15, so we have corrected that here. Playing all 15 lines gives you the most chances to win each spin.
RTP and Volatility
The RTP for Diamonds Downunder isn’t consistent across sources. Our older review listed 94.79%. Other listings show 95.74% and 96%. This may be because different versions exist, or simply because the figure has been reported differently over time.
Topboss Group tip: with an older slot like this, always check the RTP in the game’s help screen at your casino. That figure is the one that applies to your play.
Volatility sits around low to medium. In practice, you can expect fairly regular smaller wins, with bigger payouts mostly coming from the free spins and bonus game. If you’d like to understand these numbers better, read our guide to RTP and online slots.
Diamonds Downunder Symbols
Pick Axe Wild
The Pick Axe is the wild, which makes sense for a diamond hunt. It replaces all other symbols to help complete wins, except the two scatters.
The Pick Axe also pays well by itself. In fact, it is the top-paying symbol in the game.
| Pick Axes on a payline | Pays |
|---|---|
| 2 | 10 coins |
| 3 | 100 coins |
| 4 | 1,000 coins |
| 5 | 5,000 coins |
Among the regular symbols, the Diamond is the most valuable. Five Diamonds on a line pay 400 times your coin bet.
Aboriginal Hunter Scatter
The Aboriginal Hunter is the first scatter. It pays in any position on the reels, and three or more trigger the free spins. Our earlier review listed a top scatter payout of 500x your total bet for five hunters. We couldn’t confirm that figure in current listings, so check the paytable in the game for the exact amount.
Treasure Map Scatter
The Treasure Map is the second scatter. Land three or more anywhere on the reels to start the treasure-digging bonus game.
Diamonds Downunder Bonus Features
There are two main features in Diamonds Downunder. Here is a quick summary.
- Free Spins: land three to five Aboriginal Hunter scatters for up to 100 free spins.
- Treasure Dig Bonus: land three or more Treasure Maps to dig for cash prizes.
Free Spins
The number of free spins depends on how many Aboriginal Hunter scatters you land.
| Scatters | Free spins |
|---|---|
| 3 | 10 |
| 4 | 20 |
| 5 | 100 |
The jump to 100 free spins for five scatters is unusually generous. Most slots stop at 20 or 25 spins. So landing all five hunters can lead to a very long and rewarding round.
Our older review also said all free spins wins are tripled. We couldn’t confirm the multiplier in current listings, so check the game’s help screen to see whether it applies at your casino.
Treasure Dig Bonus Game
The bonus game starts when three or more Treasure Maps appear on the reels. A map then fills the screen, showing several possible spots where treasure might be buried.
You pick a spot, and a miner starts hacking away at the rock. Next, a mine cart full of diamonds rolls towards you to reveal your cash prize. It is a short, simple feature, but it adds a fun break from the reels.
Bet Max and Autoplay
The Bet Max button sets the highest possible stake and spins the reels in one click. Be careful with it, as it takes your bet straight to 75 if your coin value is set to 1.00.
The Auto option spins the reels for a chosen number of rounds without stopping. Before you use it, set a budget you’re comfortable with. For more ideas, see our online slots tips.
How to Play Diamonds Downunder
Diamonds Downunder is easy to pick up. Follow these steps to start your diamond hunt.
- Choose your lines: select between 1 and 15 paylines.
- Pick your coins: bet 1 to 5 coins per line.
- Set the coin value: choose a value between 0.01 and 1.00.
- Spin: press Spin, or use Auto for a run of spins.
- Watch for scatters: Hunters bring free spins, and Maps start the bonus game.
Wins on regular symbols pay from left to right along your active paylines. Scatter wins are different, as they pay wherever the symbols land.
Tips for Playing Diamonds Downunder
No tip can change the result of a spin, as every outcome is random. Still, a few simple habits can help you enjoy the game for longer.
- Play all 15 lines: lower the coin value instead, so you keep every winning line active.
- Avoid Bet Max by accident: it jumps straight to the top stake.
- Be patient: the free spins and treasure dig are where the bigger wins come from.
- Set limits: decide on a budget and a time limit before you start.

A Note on the Symbol Names
Older versions of this review, and some casino listings, call the free spins scatter the “Aborigine Hunter”. Today, “Aborigine” is widely seen as an outdated term. For that reason, we refer to the symbol as the Aboriginal Hunter throughout this review. The symbol and how it works in the game have not changed.
Playing Diamonds Downunder on Mobile
Diamonds Downunder first launched more than 15 years ago, back when most players used desktop computers. Today, many Rival games run in mobile browsers, but older titles are not always available on every device. If you want to play on your phone, check that your casino lists the game in its mobile lobby.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Fun, cheerful Outback theme
- Up to 100 free spins with five scatters
- Two separate bonus features
- Pick Axe wild pays up to 5,000 coins
- Flexible bets from 0.01 to 75
Cons
- RTP figures vary between sources
- Dated graphics compared to new slots
- Bonus game is short and simple
- Older title, so not every casino carries it
Our Verdict
Diamonds Downunder is a cheerful, easy-going slot with a big personality. The chance of 100 free spins makes it stand out, and the treasure dig adds a nice extra. The graphics show their age, and the RTP isn’t clear-cut. Even so, if you enjoy classic Rival adventures with a fun theme, it is well worth a spin.
