Desperados Wild Megaways Overview
Desperados Wild Megaways takes you back to the Wild West. You ride alongside four outlaws across dusty plains, where gold, whiskey and dynamite are never far away. The soundtrack beats like a Western drum, and dynamite explodes when the big wins land.
The game comes from Inspired Entertainment. Inspired describes it as its first-ever Megaways game, with two exciting and highly volatile bonuses. It uses the Megaways engine under licence from Big Time Gaming.
The game has six reels, with 2 to 7 rows each, giving up to 117,649 ways to win. The highlight is the choice of two free spins modes: Sunset Free Spins and Jail House Free Spins.

Theme and Design
Desperados Wild is a classic Wild West adventure. Four rough-looking outlaws are the stars, and the reels are set against wide, dusty plains. You’ll hear drums and the crack of dynamite as you play.
The symbols fit the theme. Colt revolvers, a bottle of whiskey, bundles of dynamite and a sheriff’s star make up the higher-paying symbols. Card royals from 9 to Ace are the lower-paying symbols.
How Megaways Works
Each of the six reels shows between 2 and 7 symbols on every spin. The more symbols that land, the more ways there are to win. The maximum is 117,649 ways.
A horizontal reel sits above reels 2 to 5. It adds extra symbols, and it’s where the outlaw wilds appear in the base game. For more about the format, see our Megaways slots guide.
Betting, RTP and Volatility
Our original review listed a bet range of $0.20 to $20 per spin. It gave the RTP as 96.49% in one section and 96.40% in another. Inspired doesn’t publish a figure, so check the help screen at your casino.
The base game was rated as medium to high volatility. The two free spins modes change the volatility, as explained below.
Desperados Wild Symbols
Here’s how the symbols break down in our original review:
- Four outlaws: the wild symbols, which land on the horizontal reel only in the base game.
- Golden sun Bonus symbol: the scatter that triggers the free spins.
- Colts, whiskey, dynamite and sheriff’s star: the higher-paying symbols, paying 2x to 50x for six of a kind.
- 9 to Ace: the lower-paying card royals.
Choose Your Free Spins
Land four or more scatters to trigger the bonus. You then pick one of two free spins modes. Each has a very different feel.
| Mode | Starting free spins | Extra spins | Volatility in our original review |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunset Free Spins | 8 for 4 scatters | +2 per extra scatter | Medium to high |
| Jail House Free Spins | 12 for 4 scatters | +2 per extra scatter | High to extremely high |
Sunset Free Spins
The Sunset round uses the normal Megaways reels. It starts with 8 free spins for four scatters. Each extra scatter on the triggering spin adds 2 more, up to 76 in total.
An unlimited multiplier rises by 1x after every win. Long chains of wins can push it to big levels.
Jail House Free Spins
The Jail House round is very different. It starts with 12 free spins for four scatters, plus 2 for each extra scatter, up to 80 in total.
In this mode, the cascades and the extra reel are switched off. Instead, wilds that land on reels 2 to 5 drop to the bottom. They then stay sticky for the rest of the round. The number of symbols on each reel is also locked.
If another wild lands on the same reel, they combine and gain a multiplier. The multiplier shows how many wilds have merged. Wild multipliers multiply each other when they’re part of the same win. Filling a whole reel awards 5 more free spins.
Bonus Top Up Gamble
Before either free spins mode starts, you can choose a Bonus Top Up. This is an optional gamble wheel with green and red sections.
If the wheel lands on green, you win 2 extra free spins. You can keep gambling or stop at any time. A red result means the gamble fails, so only use it if you’re comfortable with the risk. Check the help screen to see exactly what you could lose.
Spin Chance Feature
Our original review also described a Spin Chance feature. Sometimes your balance drops below your current bet but stays above zero. When that happens, the game offers a chance to win one more spin at that bet size.
How to Play Desperados Wild Megaways
- Check the help screen: confirm the RTP and bet range at your casino.
- Set your stake: choose a bet that suits a high volatility game.
- Spin the reels: the number of ways changes every spin.
- Land four scatters: this starts the free spins choice.
- Pick your mode: Sunset for steadier play, Jail House for bigger swings.
Who Is Desperados Wild Best For?
This slot suits players who like having a choice in their bonus. The two free spins modes let you pick your own level of risk.
It’s a good fit if you:
- Enjoy Western themes: outlaws, dynamite and gold.
- Like Megaways games: up to 117,649 ways on every spin.
- Want control over volatility: choose a steady or wild bonus.

What We Changed in This Review
- Studio facts: we’ve added Inspired’s own description of the game as its first Megaways title.
- RTP note: our original review listed both 96.49% and 96.40%, so we’ve flagged the difference.
- Figures: we’ve marked the bet range, paytable and free spins details as coming from our original review.
Sunset or Jail House: Which to Pick?
The choice comes down to how much risk you enjoy. Sunset Free Spins are steadier, with cascades and a multiplier that grows after every win. Jail House Free Spins are wilder, with sticky wilds that can merge into big multipliers.
If you’re on a smaller budget, Sunset is the safer option. If you have a bigger budget and enjoy chasing huge wins, Jail House offers more upside.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Up to 117,649 ways to win
- Choice of two very different free spins modes
- Sticky multiplier wilds in the Jail House round
- Unlimited multiplier in the Sunset round
Cons
- RTP not confirmed by Inspired
- Jail House round is extremely volatile
- Bonus Top Up gamble can lose the round
- Free spins need 4 scatters
Our Verdict
Desperados Wild Megaways puts a fresh twist on the Megaways formula. The choice between Sunset and Jail House free spins means you can play it safe or go all in. The Jail House sticky wilds can build some huge multipliers. If you enjoy Wild West slots with real bonus choice, saddle up and give it a spin.
