Scary Friends Slot Overview
Scary Friends is a light-hearted monster slot from Rabcat, the Austrian studio known for its detailed 3D animation. Despite the name, nothing here is frightening. The monsters are fuzzy, goofy and full of character, and they’re more likely to make you smile than jump.
A big hairy monster sits beside the reels and reacts to every win. On small wins, he might toss his pet furball into the air and catch it. On bigger ones, he throws open his mouth in celebration. It’s a fun touch that gives the game plenty of personality.
Based on our original review, Scary Friends plays on 5 reels and 3 rows, with 25 paylines. It has a wild that pays on its own and a bouncing furball free spins feature. There’s also a monster wheel bonus and a gamble option.

Theme and Graphics
Scary Friends is all about cartoon monsters. The reels sit in a playful setting, and the 3D graphics were impressive for their time. Each monster has its own look, from long lashes to a single big eye.
The sound effects match the theme well. You’ll hear monster roars, little blips as the reels stop and a cheerful jazz tune when you land a win. Together, they keep the mood bright and silly rather than spooky.
The star of the show is the large monster on the left of the reels. His reactions change with the size of your win, which makes even small payouts feel lively. If you prefer a creepier take on monsters, our Creepy Castle review covers a darker game.
Paylines, Betting and RTP
Scary Friends has 25 paylines across five reels. Our original review listed the RTP as 95.47%, which is a little below today’s average of around 96%. It also described the game as low volatility, so wins should land fairly often but tend to be smaller.
We couldn’t confirm the RTP or bet range today. Many games also come in more than one RTP version, and the casino decides which one you play. For that reason, open the help screen before you spin.
Our guide to RTP and online slots explains what the figure means for your play.
Scary Friends Symbols
The paytable is split between monster symbols and playing cards. All figures below come from our original review and are shown in coins.
Monster Symbols
The pink monster with long lashes is the top regular symbol. Five on a line paid 2,000 coins in our original review, and four paid 200 coins. Next comes the one-eyed white monster, which paid 100 coins for five.
Next, the green monster with spectacles paid 50 coins for five. The orange monster is the lowest of the monster symbols, paying 25 coins for five.
Card Symbols
The lower-paying symbols are playing cards from King down to 10. They land more often and help keep your balance ticking over between bigger wins.
| Symbol | Role | Top pay for 5 in our original review |
|---|---|---|
| Yellow fuzzy monster | Wild | 40,000 coins |
| Pink monster | Regular symbol | 2,000 coins |
| White one-eyed monster | Regular symbol | 100 coins |
| Green monster with spectacles | Regular symbol | 50 coins |
| Orange monster | Regular symbol | 25 coins |
| Furball | Free spins symbol | Triggers free spins |
| Four monster heads | Bonus symbol | Triggers the bonus game |
Scary Friends Bonus Features
Scary Friends packs in more features than many games from its era. Here’s what you’ll find:
- Wild symbol: the yellow fuzzy monster substitutes for regular symbols and pays on its own.
- Free spins: three furballs start a bouncing feature that awards 4 to 15 free spins.
- Monster wheel bonus: three or more bonus symbols take you to a pick-and-win game.
- Gamble feature: an optional chance to double a win.
The Wild Monster
The yellow fuzzy monster is the wild. It stands in for every symbol except the free spins and bonus symbols. That helps complete winning lines across the reels.
The wild can also form its own winning lines. In our original review, five wilds on a line paid up to 40,000 coins. That’s the biggest single line win in the game, so it’s the symbol to watch for.
Furball Free Spins
The free spins symbol is the small furry creature you’ll see near the bottom of the reels. Land three of them anywhere, and the background changes for the feature.
A set of scales with a little monitor appears, and the furball starts bouncing on it. The number of bounces decides how many free spins you get. You can win anywhere from 4 to 15 free spins, and the feature can be retriggered.
Monster Wheel Bonus Game
The bonus symbol shows four monster heads. Land three or more, and you’ll move to a separate bonus screen.
Here, four monsters sit on a wheel. You pick the one you think will hold on the longest. The wheel then spins, and the monsters get flung into the air one by one. The longer your chosen monster stays seated, the bigger your prize.
Gamble Feature
After any win, you can choose to gamble. Guess the colour of a face-down card correctly, and your win is doubled. Guess wrong, and you lose that win.
It’s an all-or-nothing choice, so it’s best kept for small amounts. You can always skip it and collect your win.
How to Play Scary Friends
Scary Friends is easy to pick up, even with its extra features. Follow these steps:
- Check the help screen: look at the RTP and bet limits at your casino.
- Set your stake: choose your coin value and bet level.
- Spin the reels: press Spin, or use Autoplay if it’s offered.
- Watch for furballs: three of them start the free spins feature.
- Look out for monster heads: three or more take you to the wheel bonus.
- Collect or gamble: after a win, keep it or try the gamble feature.
Who Is Scary Friends For?
Scary Friends suits players who enjoy fun, animated slots with a steady pace. The low volatility in our original review means fewer long dry spells, which helps your budget last.
It’s also a good pick for players who like variety. Between the free spins, the wheel bonus and the gamble option, there’s always something to aim for. If you’d rather chase huge wins, a higher volatility game would suit you better.
What We Changed in This Review

- Figures: we’ve marked the RTP, paytable and volatility as coming from our original review.
- Features: we’ve explained each bonus in clearer steps.
- Layout: we’ve tidied the review into our standard format, with a summary table and FAQs.
Playing Scary Friends on Mobile
Scary Friends is an older game, so mobile support depends on the version your casino offers. If it loads in your mobile browser, the large cartoon symbols should be easy to see on a smaller screen.
Pros and Cons

Our Verdict
Scary Friends is a cheerful monster slot with more personality than most. The animated host, the bouncing furball free spins and the wheel bonus all add to the fun. It’s an older Rabcat game, though, and we couldn’t confirm that it’s still offered. If you find it at your casino, check the help screen first, then enjoy a light-hearted spin.
