Megasaur Slot Review with Feature Guarantee
Megasaur is a prehistoric progressive slot from Realtime Gaming. The developer now trades as SpinLogic Gaming. The reels sit deep in a dinosaur jungle, and two hungry Megasaurs roam the screen.
The game has 5 reels and 25 paylines. It adds two wilds, volcano scatters and a network progressive jackpot. A Feature Guarantee promises the bonus after a set number of spins.
This review covers the bet range, the wilds and the Feature Guarantee. A 2014 casino press release confirmed the basic layout and features. The other figures come from our earlier review and are marked that way.
Megasaur at a Glance
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Developer | Realtime Gaming, now SpinLogic Gaming |
| Theme | Prehistoric jungle |
| Layout | 5 reels, 25 paylines |
| Jackpot | Network progressive |
| RTP | 96% (earlier review) |
| Wilds | Green Megasaur (reel 2), Red Megasaur (reel 4) |
| Scatter | Volcano, 6 to 50 free spins |
| Guarantee | Bonus after 250 spins (earlier review) |
| Bet system | Max, Major or Minor bet |
Theme, Graphics and Sound
Megasaur is all about the dinosaurs. You can spot Velociraptors, Diplodocus, Pterodactyls and Triceratops on the reels. Two meat-eating Megasaurs hunt the others.
The irony is that their hunger triggers the big bonuses. The wilds, the Megasaur Feature, the progressive jackpot, the volcano scatters and the Feature Guarantee all link to the hunt.
The graphics are bold. The music suits the theme. As a result, the game feels like a trip into the past.
Our guide to popular slot themes online shows other adventure styles.
Betting Range
A 2014 press release said the game has a three-bet system. You can choose Max, Major or Minor Bet. The release did not list the coin sizes.
Our earlier review gave a coin range of 0.05 to 0.20. It also listed one coin per line and a Mega bet of $5. We could not verify these numbers.
The coin limits are low for a progressive game. That keeps the stakes friendly for smaller players.
RTP and Volatility
Our earlier review gave the RTP as 96%. That is average for online slots. Our guide to RTP and online slots explains the figure.
Progressive slots build their jackpot from every bet. As a result, the base game may pay a little less than a non-progressive slot with the same RTP.
The Two Megasaur Wilds
The game has two wilds. The Green Megasaur appears on reel two. It can replace any symbol except the volcano and the Red Megasaur. It also devours other dinosaurs, which are then replaced.
The Red Megasaur appears on reel four. It substitutes for all symbols except the Green Megasaur and the volcano. It also doubles winning combinations, according to our earlier review.
| Wild | Reel | Effect (earlier review) |
|---|---|---|
| Green Megasaur | 2 | Replaces most symbols and devours dinosaurs |
| Red Megasaur | 4 | Replaces most symbols and doubles wins |
Volcano Scatters
Volcanoes are the scatters. Three of them trigger the free spins. You then click each volcano to reveal your spins.
The minimum is 6 free spins. The maximum is 50, which comes from five scatters.
| Volcano scatters | Free spins |
|---|---|
| 3 | 6 or more |
| 5 | Up to 50 |
Megasaur Feature
The Megasaur Feature is a bonus round where the reels shake. A press release said the network progressive grows with every wager.
The feature ties the dinosaur story to the jackpot.
Feature Guarantee
The Feature Guarantee is the most unusual part of the game. It promises the free spins after a set number of spins. Our earlier review said this happens at 250 spins.
A 2014 press release confirmed that the guarantee exists. It did not give the number.
Prehistoric Win-Win
Our earlier review said the free spins always pay something. A round with no win still pays 250x your bet, it said. A round with a win of 5x to 10x pays 2x to 250x.
We could not verify these rules. Treat them as a guide and check the in-game help.
Megasaur Progressive Jackpot
The progressive jackpot grows as the game is played. Any player can win it. Our earlier review said it pays out if you hit five volcano symbols in the free spins round.
The press release said the pool is funded by games across the RTG network, and it can reach millions. Check the live value at your casino.
Strategy and Bankroll Tips
- Budget enough for a long run so you can reach the Feature Guarantee.
- Choose a bet size you can repeat many times.
- Check the live jackpot before you play.
- Set a loss limit before you start.
- Take regular breaks.
No tip changes the odds. Every spin is random, and earlier results never affect the next one.
Mobile and Demo Play
We could not confirm device support for this older title. Check your casino to see if it runs on your phone.
If a demo is available, use it to see how the wilds work.
A demo is a safe way to learn the features. Our guide to free online slots explains how to practise.
How a Typical Session Plays
The base game is steady. Small wins appear as dinosaurs line up.
The Green and Red Megasaurs bring excitement. They can eat other dinosaurs and replace them with wins.
Volcanoes start the free spins. The Feature Guarantee waits in the background as a safety net.
Megasaur Compared with Other RTG Progressives
| Area | Megasaur | Typical progressive |
|---|---|---|
| Layout | 5 reels, 25 lines | Varies |
| Special promise | Feature Guarantee | None |
| Wilds | Two, on reels 2 and 4 | One |
| Jackpot | Network progressive | Often network |
The Feature Guarantee is the main difference. It gives a long run a clear finish line.
About Realtime Gaming and SpinLogic
Realtime Gaming has a long history in online casinos. Our review of SpinLogic Gaming explains the new name. Our page on Realtime Gaming slots lists more of its titles.
You may see either name at a casino. The games are the same family.
Why the Guarantee Matters
Bonus-driven slots can leave players waiting for hours. The Feature Guarantee removes that fear. You know the bonus will arrive.
This helps with budgeting. A fixed number of spins gives a clear cost for a bonus.
On the other hand, the guarantee only helps if you can afford the run. Never extend your budget to chase it.
Getting Started with Megasaur
Start with the demo if your casino offers one. Spin for a few minutes and watch how the main features work. This costs nothing and shows you the pace of the game.
Next, open the paytable. It shows the symbol values and the rules at your stake. As a result, every spin makes more sense.
Then move to real money at a small bet. A modest stake gives the bonus round time to appear. Finally, decide your limit before the first spin and keep to it.
Playing Responsibly
A guaranteed bonus can tempt you to keep spinning past your budget. Set a budget before you play and keep to it. Use deposit limits and reality checks if your casino offers them.
Players must also be of legal gambling age in their country. Never chase losses. Stop if gambling stops being fun.
