International Game Technology announced its agreement to acquire WagerWorks in July 2005. The deal closed on 25 August 2005 for approximately $89 million.

At the time, IGT said the deal would help distribute its game content through new channels, including the internet and other remote gaming platforms. The move gave the company a stronger route into regulated digital gaming without having to build every part of the operation from scratch.

What Happened to the Brand?

The WagerWorks name gradually became less visible after the acquisition. Its technology, content and operator relationships were folded into the wider digital business, while IGT became the name players and operators recognised.

As a result, older titles may still be labelled WagerWorks or WagerWorks/IGT in historical databases. Modern releases, however, are generally presented under the IGT brand.

This is why the casino listings further down this page may still refer to the older software name. They are retained for historical reference rather than as a guarantee that those operators currently carry the same games.

IGT PlayDigital Today

IGT PlayDigital is now the relevant digital gaming division. It supplies online content and technology to regulated operators and connects the company’s long land-based history with modern online play.
