Online Social Games – A Big Leap in Gaming


Online social games have almost replaced Video games which used to be installed on a computer or played via a console. Furthermore, Gaming used to be very expensive in the old days because you needed to purchase a copy of the games you wanted to play. However, due to the invention of the internet, together with innovations in networking, free games offered online, have become the next big thing in the gaming industry.

The various online gaming portals promote Free to Play (F2P) games where anyone can select a game they can play, download and install their game of choice and finally enjoy playing the game. Of course, since it’s the internet, it involves internet users who are also playing. Through online games, player interaction was made possible.

Free games online are played by millions of people around the globe. With various advancements in computer programming and computer graphics (e.g. enhanced 3D graphics), online social games have reached another milestone. In-game characters, as well as the games’ environment and terrain, have looked more realistic compared to the past games.

Online games used to be on PCs only. However, with the latest gadgets available, developers have decided to expand their games, moreover, to various platforms. Such as gaming consoles (e.g. PS3 and Nintendo Wii), smartphones (e.g. iPhone and Android), and other gadgets (iPod Touch and iPad).

One of the most famous sites where you can play online social games is none other than Facebook. With millions of registered users, Facebook also has millions of gamers playing the social games of their choice. What makes it social is that you can share items and give gifts to help out a friend.
