Chinese Roulette by 1×2 Gaming Review
Most roulette games copy one of three styles. These are European, American or French. Chinese Roulette by 1×2 Gaming breaks the mould.
The wheel has 12 main betting options. Each one is an animal from the Chinese zodiac. There is also a single zero, which the game calls Infinity.
This review explains how the game works, what the bets pay and how the maths compares with European roulette. The figures come from our earlier review. 1×2 Gaming’s website did not list the game on the page we checked, so we could not confirm them.
Chinese Roulette at a Glance
| Feature | Detail |
|---|---|
| Developer | 1×2 Gaming |
| Game type | Roulette with a Chinese zodiac layout |
| Wheel | 37 pockets, with 3 for each of 12 animals plus one zero |
| Zero pocket | Called Infinity |
| Bet range | $0.10 to $200 (earlier review) |
| RTP | 97.30% (earlier review) |
| Volatility | Low (earlier review) |
The Chinese Zodiac Theme
The Chinese zodiac has 12 animals. They are the Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.
In this game, each animal takes the place of a number. You bet on an animal rather than on a number from 1 to 36. The theme suits players who enjoy astrology and lucky signs.
1×2 Gaming is known for unusual twists on classic games. You can learn more about the studio in our profile of 1×2 Gaming. Another of its titles is our review of Kitty Cash.
How the Wheel Is Built
A normal European wheel has 37 pockets. They are numbered 0 to 36. Chinese Roulette keeps the 37 pockets but changes the labels.
Each of the 12 animals takes three pockets. That uses 36 pockets. The last pocket is the single zero, or Infinity.
This design is why the game feels familiar. The ball falls into one of 37 pockets, just like on a European wheel.
How to Play Chinese Roulette
The layout shows 12 animals instead of 36 numbers. You choose from 12 straight-up bets. Click the animal you think the ball will land on.
Outside bets are also different. Some of them group animals by season. For example, a Spring bet covers the Rabbit, Dragon and Tiger. Our earlier review also mentioned an Earth bet that covers the Snake, Rooster and Ox.
You can also bet on columns and on positive or negative groups. These work like the column and even-money bets in classic roulette. Then press spin and wait for the ball to land.
Bets and Payouts
The game uses the same maths as European roulette. We worked out the likely payouts from the RTP in our earlier review. They match the figures below, but check the paytable in the game.
| Bet | Pockets covered | Chance of winning | Likely payout |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single animal | 3 | 8.1% | 11 to 1 |
| Season group of 3 animals | 9 | 24.3% | 3 to 1 |
| Column of 4 animals | 12 | 32.4% | 2 to 1 |
| Positive or negative group | 18 | 48.6% | 1 to 1 |
Notice the pattern. Each bet has a chance and a payout that balance to the same long-term return. That return is 36 out of 37, or 97.30%.
The single zero is the source of the house edge. It is the only pocket that wins for the casino on every bet.
RTP and Volatility
Our earlier review gave the RTP as 97.30%. That matches a European wheel, where the house edge is 2.70%. Our guide to RTP and online slots explains the idea of return to player.
Our earlier review called the game low volatility. That claim needs context. A single animal bet wins on 3 of 37 pockets. You therefore hit more often than on a single number in normal roulette. The payout is lower to match.
As a result, your balance moves in smaller steps. You see more small wins and fewer big ones. The long-term return is the same.
Chinese Roulette vs European Roulette
| Area | Chinese Roulette | European Roulette |
|---|---|---|
| Pockets | 37 | 37 |
| Straight bet | One of 12 animals | One of 36 numbers |
| Straight payout | About 11 to 1 | 35 to 1 |
| Chance of a straight win | 8.1% | 2.7% |
| House edge | 2.70% (earlier review) | 2.70% |
| Theme | Chinese zodiac | Classic table |
The edge is the same, but the feel is different. Chinese Roulette hits more often and pays less per hit. It suits players who like steadier play.
Betting Range
Our earlier review gave a bet range of $0.10 to $200. That is a wide spread. Small players can enjoy long sessions on a tiny budget.
High rollers can place bigger bets, but the table maximum limits them. Check the limits at your casino because operators can change them.
Is It Better Than Classic Roulette?
It is not better in terms of odds. It matches European roulette. However, it offers a fresh theme and easier choices.
There are only 12 straight bets instead of 37. New players can find this simpler. It is also a good way to try roulette without learning the full layout.
Video and live roulette have their own pros and cons. Our comparison of video and live roulette explains which style suits you.
Strategy and Bankroll Tips
- Choose a small bet so you can play many spins.
- Mix single animal bets with group bets.
- Set a loss limit before you start.
- Take breaks every 20 or 30 minutes.
- Do not chase a lucky animal.
- Treat the game as pure entertainment.
No strategy changes the house edge. Our guide to roulette strategies explains the usual ideas. Our page on the Martingale system shows why doubling after losses is risky.
Each spin is random. A past result tells you nothing about the next one.
A Sample Session
Imagine you play with a $50 budget and a $0.50 bet. You place one bet on the Dragon and one bet on a Spring group. Each spin costs $1.
The Dragon bet wins about once in twelve spins. When it does, it pays $5.50 in profit on a $0.50 stake. The Spring bet wins about once in four spins and pays $1.50 in profit.
Over a long session, wins and losses balance out toward a small loss. That is the house edge at work. A small bet size lets you enjoy many spins before your budget is gone.
Use this as a guide to pacing. Decide how many spins you want and match your bet to your budget.
Mobile and Demo Play
1×2 Gaming builds games in HTML5, so most casinos run them on phones and tablets. Our earlier review did not list device support. Check your casino to confirm.
Look for a demo mode. It is a safe way to learn the animal layout. Our guide to free online slots explains how demo play works at many casinos.
Playing Responsibly
Roulette is a game of chance. Set a budget before you play and keep to it. Use deposit limits and reality checks if your casino offers them.
Players must be of legal gambling age in their country. Never chase losses. Stop if gambling stops being fun.
