Where’s the Gold Slot Review by Aristocrat
Where’s the Gold is a gold rush pokie from Aristocrat. It has five reels and 25 paylines. The game is not progressive, and it centres on a free games round with a choice of characters.
The setting is an old mining town. Cartoon prospectors, wagons and dynamite fill the reels. It started life as a land based machine, and it remains a favourite in many casinos.
This review covers the symbols, the free games and the character choice. We also explain the bet range and who the slot suits.

Theme, Graphics and Sound
The reels sit in a dusty mining town. Wooden shacks and rocky hills frame the screen. The colours are warm and bright.
Cartoon characters bring the story to life. The music is lively and fits the gold rush mood. It feels like a fun, old fashioned arcade game.
Gold rush stories are a classic slot theme. Our guide to popular slot themes online shows why they remain popular.
Betting Range
You can bet from 0.01 up to 4.00 per line. With 25 lines, the smallest bet is 0.01 per spin in some versions. The largest bet is 100.00 per spin.
The exact limits depend on your casino and the version of the game. Check the bet menu before you start.
Symbols and Paytable
The symbols are tools of the mining trade. You will see a prospector, wagons, shovels, picks, dynamite, mine shafts and lamps. Five cartoon characters also appear. High value card symbols from nine to ace fill the lower end.
| Symbol | Role |
|---|---|
| Prospector | Wild |
| Dynamite | Scatter that triggers free games |
| Characters | High paying symbols and bonus picks |
| Wagons, shovels, picks | Mid paying symbols |
| Mine shafts and lamps | Themed symbols |

Check the in-game paytable for exact values at your stake.
Wild and Scatter Symbols
The Prospector Wild
The prospector is the wild. He replaces other symbols to complete winning lines. He does not replace the scatter.
The Dynamite Scatter
Dynamite is the scatter. Three or more of them anywhere on the five reels start the free games round. They pay on their own as well.
Free Games and the Character Choice
Three or more dynamite scatters open a second screen. You then choose from five characters. They are Happy Lucky, Mary Money, Peter Panner, Professor Gold and Winnie Fortune.
Your choice affects the free games. The number of nuggets revealed by your character decides how many free games you receive. During the round, some symbols turn into gold symbols. These add extra credits.
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1 | Land three or more dynamite scatters |
| 2 | Choose one of five characters |
| 3 | Nuggets decide your free games |
| 4 | Symbols turn to gold and add credits |
The Jackpot
Where’s the Gold is a non-progressive game. The top prize is fixed, not a growing pool. Our earlier review listed a cash jackpot of $4,000 for the top combination.
The exact figure depends on your coin size and casino. Check the paytable for your stake.
How a Typical Session Plays
The base game is steady. Line wins from the tools and characters appear at a regular pace. The prospector wild helps many of them along.
The big moments come with the dynamite scatters. The character choice screen adds a small decision that keeps you engaged.
Land Based Roots
This game is a long time favourite on casino floors. Players often call such machines pokies, especially in Australia and New Zealand. You can see how that heritage shapes the design.
The rules are simple, the bonus is easy to understand, and the theme is friendly. Many players find that style a welcome change from complex modern slots.

How the Gold Symbols Work
During the free games, some symbols turn into gold. Gold symbols carry extra credits. They give the round its payoff, because a screen full of gold can add up fast.
The character you pick shapes how often that happens. Some characters favour more free games, and others favour more gold. That is the trade-off at the heart of the choice screen.
| Focus | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| More free games | A longer round with more chances to hit |
| More gold | Fewer spins but bigger credit hits |
| Balanced pick | A middle path between both |
Try the demo first if one is available. It shows how the five characters change the free games, with no money at risk.
Gold Rush Slots Compared
Gold mining is a common theme. Most games focus on cascades or big multipliers. Where’s the Gold takes a gentler route with a simple pick and a fixed jackpot.
| Area | Where’s the Gold | Typical modern gold slot |
|---|---|---|
| Layout | 5 reels, 25 paylines | Ways to win or cascades |
| Main bonus | Free games with a character pick | Multipliers or bonus buy |
| Jackpot | Fixed | Often progressive |
| Complexity | Low | Medium to high |
If you value clear rules and a quick start, this style has real appeal.

No tip changes the odds. Each spin is random, and past results never affect the next one.

Playing Responsibly
Simple pokies can feel relaxing, and that can make time pass quickly. Set a budget before you play, and keep to it.
