Tips for Playing Online Blackjack

As far as casino games go, you don’t get much more of a classic than Blackjack. It’s a simple, straightforward game that just about anyone can start playing immediately.

The core rules are simple; get your total as close to 21 as you can, without going over 21. This will involve the player getting dealt two cards, and the option to either stick with the current total or call for another card.

The trick of Blackjack is, of course, that the player is tempted to call for another card in hopes of chasing 21. The risk is always that an extra card will bump the total too far, and result in the player going bust.

For those who are new to Blackjack, or those that are simply looking to get better at the game, here are a few essential tips that can improve your chances of winning, and help you see more cash in your pocket.

If you really want to get good at the game you can take advantage of the free games available online before you try the real money alternatives.

 The Ace Is Magic

You must already know this, but it never helps to have a little reminder from time to time. The ace in the sports betting NZ must offer, or any other Blackjack game for that matter is magic and can be counted as either 1, or 11. This means that the card is incredibly valuable, and likewise extremely tactical.

Upon getting an ace, it will always be read as the number that is most useful to your hand. If, for example, you receive a 5 and ace, your hand will be read as 16, since it is the most useful hand to have.

If another card is called for, however, and it happens to be an 8, the hand will then be read as 14, since changing the ace to a 1 will avoid the hand going bust.

Also keep in mind that an ace plus a picture card is a prime winning hand, since it is immediately, of course, 21.

Beat The Dealer, Not The Number

The instinctive thinking of many Blackjack players is to chase 21 as aggressively as possible, which seems like the logical thing to do. But this is not really the object of the game.

The object of the game is in fact to beat the dealer, not get as close to 21 as possible. If the dealer goes bust attempting to chase the player total of 13, 13 is still a winning hand. Many, however, would hesitate at sticking with 13, and likely call for another card.

Sticking on a lower total will often result in a win, regardless of it not being especially close to 21. This should be kept in mind.

It should also be kept in mind that the dealer always has one card facing up, so that the player may get an idea of what hand the dealer is going to draw. If the dealer has a picture card showing, it is not a good sign.

Same Cards Can Be Split

If the player is dealt two cards that are of the same number, the hand may be split, and the player has two separate hands.

This should not be done lightly though, as it also means that the player must put a separate bet for each hand. Only consider doing so when two strong cards are showing, such as two 10s, or two picture cards.

Online Blackjack is fun and exciting, and with a little bit of practice, it can be very lucrative too.
