How did Relax Gaming Begin?

The founders, Patrik Österåker and Jani Tekoniemi were sitting in a pub in Malta when they decided to establish the company.

There is over 80 dedicated staff with an impressive work ethic and desire to keep the original spirit of adventure and fun alive. The multi-talented team refer to themselves as the ‘Relaxers’!

Unibet shared that vision, and they have been an important customer from the beginning, and still use the services of Relax Gaming. Over the years Relax has evolved and grown, they now work together with a number of leading European gaming operators and suppliers.

Patrik Österåker is from Vaasa, Finland, and is the CEO and co-founder of Relax Gaming. After several years in various software development roles in the telecoms industry, he moved to Malta to become CTO of an online gaming operator. He describes himself as a ‘cat’ person and, unusually for someone in the gaming industry, he has never been to visit Las Vegas.

Martin Stålros is from Skåne, southern Sweden, is the COO. He has always been a keen poker player and started off in the industry by founding a consultancy that acted as a bridge between players and operators. He now lives in Tallinn where he enjoys the great attractions which sometimes divert him from the poker tables, online casinos and sportsbooks!

Kai Palomäki is from Ilmajoki, Finland and has been CTO since day one. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Information Technology but also enjoys craft beers, describing himself as a ’beer hipster wannabe’!

Markus Kruk is from Helsinki, Finland, he is the CFO. He joined Relax in 2015 following a two-year secondment in Amsterdam. Markus is passionate about football, fishing, sailing, and travelling.

Tom Finlayson is from Melbourne, Australia, he is the Head of Delivery. He started in IT in 2000 then joined Relax Gaming full-time in 2016. Besides enjoying a drink or doubling down against a ten in blackjack, he enjoys playing games and binging on Netflix! As an avid traveller, he can navigate numerous cities by their casinos and pubs…
