May 2011 - Casino Coins Announce Closure
After online poker’s bigs were pretty much disposed of by the April 15 Black Friday indictments, another devastating announcement rocked the online gambling world a couple of days ago. In a series of emails apparently sent out at random, Casino Coins, one of the biggest and best online casino affiliate operators got the word out that starting May 16, they would no longer accept new player sign-ups. The news was particularly devastating, given the fact that the restriction wasn’t aimed only at US players: affiliates would not be able to send any new players from anywhere. The parallel made with the Black Friday moves above was not a random one: apparently, there’s a payment processor issue behind the Casino Coins move, and we all know how payment processors facilitating the transfer of funds from US players to online poker and gambling interests were targeted by the DoJ. Casino Coins’ woes are apparently part of the fallout from online poker’s Black Friday.
How exactly will this move affect affiliates who already have players signed up through Casino Coins? First of all, for those who are now weighing the issue of becoming affiliates, the problem is as simple as possible: they won’t be able to. Those who already have players, won’t be able to refer new players either, but their commissions will continue to be paid. The last monthly payout will happen on June 15. After that, the payout structure will be changed to a quarterly format, meaning that affiliates will be paid 4 times a year. The first such payout will be on September 15.
While the possibility of things reverting to normal exists, it is but a remote possibility, one that affiliates – according to Casino Coins affiliate support – should not count on.
